For a 4-month internship in the role of
“EWASH Advocacy Task Force Intern”


The Emergency Water Sanitation and Hygiene (EWASH) group, established in 2002, brings together 28 leading humanitarian organizations working in the water and sanitation sector in the oPt, including local and international NGOs as well as UN agencies. The Advocacy Task Force (ATF) was formed in 2009 to coordinate messaging among EWASH members and conduct strategic advocacy at the local, national and international levels. EWASH launched the Thirsting for Justice Campaign (www.thirstingforjustice.org) in March 2010 with the aim of mobilizing European citizens in support of Palestinian rights to water and sanitation and build momentum for decisive government action to end violations.

The Advocacy Task Force Intern will be required to conduct and provide support for the advocacy activities carried out by the Advocacy Task Force in the West Bank and Gaza. The activities carried out by the Advocacy Task Force include researching and preparing background materials on priority topics, consultation with EWASH members and stakeholders, design and dissemination of EWASH materials through social and other media, organizing events including for lobbying and awareness raising.

The main tasks will include:
1-Maintain the social media presence of the Thirsting for Justice campaign and support the development of campaign actions for popular mobilization in Europe and locally and to improve visibility of the problems Palestinians face. This task involves to:
-Build international endorsements for the campaign and establish long-term partnerships with human rights activists;
-Develop campaign actions for mass popular engagement and support mobilization efforts;
-Maintain the Thirsting for Justice campaign’s online presence, Facebook group and page and Twitter account daily;
-Develop advocacy products associated with the campaign (text + multimedia);
2-Draft, write, produce and/or oversee production and distribution of audio-visual communication products and other information products, engaging EWASH members actively in the process, such as (fact sheets, press releases, letters, briefing notes) in liaison with the EWASH ATF team.
3-Identify opportunities for proactive advocacy through close monitoring of developments on the ground and conduct regular policy analysis on priority areas to ensure adequate advocacy response in emergency situations.
4-Organize, attend and follow-up public events for the ATF and EWASH members in accordance with the aims of the advocacy strategy. For example, press conferences, interviews, diplomatic briefings, workshops, EWASH ATF meetings.
5-Maintain up-to-date contact lists for media, diplomats, donors, other relevant organizations in and act as a focal point for enquiries from these organizations in close cooperation with the EWASH ATF team.
6-Collect and store information such as testimonies, photographs and videos from EWASH partners to use in advocacy activities.
7-Support the design and development of the EWASH website and update and maintain the ATF content.
8-Maintain a record of advocacy activities carried out by the EWASH ATF and WASH partner organizations and monitor impact.
9-Undertake administrative tasks as required.

Requirements
-Student or graduate in the field of social sciences;
-Experience in designing and leading campaigns as well as conducting adequate follow-up;
-Established contacts with civil society and solidarity groups in OPT and abroad;
-Excellent research skills, working with attention to detail;
-Excellent spoken and written command of English, knowledge of Arabic desired;
-Experience engaging and building communities and networks through social media;
-Effective team player with the ability to work and think independently, dedicated and proactive;
-Experience in producing and editing photos and videos;
-Experience in updating and managing websites through creativity and technical understanding;
-Knowledge of the context in the OPT is desired;
