Introduction

Médecins du Monde France (MdM-F) is an International Medical Non-Governmental Organization, which has been present in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) since 1995.  It operates in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through offices located in Jerusalem, Gaza and Nablus.

Among other projects, MdM-F started providing in 2012 a mental health and psychosocial (MHPSS) Emergency Response in North West Bank, following potentially traumatic events related to the occupation. This project is being implemented by a team of 8 social workers and 1 team leader, who outreach to Palestinians affected by critical events and provide a set of MHPSS support activities and referrals.

Due to the context and demanding nature of work, MdM acknowledges that working in that setting may induce several stressors affecting the personal well-being and health of the staff, the dynamic of a team and, ultimately, influencing the quality of care brought to the beneficiaries.

Scope of service

The service aims to provide MdM-F program staff with timely and effective emotional support. The psychosocial service will include:

• Appropriate psychosocial service: this includes evidence-based individual and group emotional support.
• Assessment: post critical incident and periodic evaluation of staff psychological wellbeing
• Reporting: provide recommendations to improve staff’s wellbeing

Specific tasks

• Provide in person monthly emotional group support sessions
• Provide in-person monthly individual emotional support (the team is composed of 9 people, based on staff’s demand).
• Based on demand, provide resilience support services, trauma and critical incident support, or any other activities that could improve group resilience as well as group cohesion
• Make assessments of staff psychological wellbeing and recommend referrals to further specialists when necessary
• Produce timely progress reports on activities conducted and provide recommendations based on finding

Qualifications

• University degree in clinical psychology, mental health, psychiatry, counselling or related mental health profession
• Expertise in mental health and psychosocial support after crisis, stress management or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in counseling, particularly in a humanitarian setting
• Knowledge of the Palestinian context and previous work in Palestine
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic
• Good command of the English language (written and spoken)
• Excellent interpersonal communication, including the ability to work with groups
• Excellent and dynamic facilitation skills in a group environment
• Ability to take initiative, make propositions and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities

• Confidentiality: the psychosocial service will maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in the support provided
• Accessible: the psychosocial service will be responsive, professional, friendly and culturally appropriate

Duration and place of intervention

• Duration of the contract: one year, subject to renewal after evaluation and agreement.
• All the sessions will have to be provided in person, in MdM-F’s Nablus office.
