Caritas Jerusalem is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the following position:
Position Title: Field Agronomist
Contract Period: 9 months.
Location: Beit Jala Municipality.
Starting date: No later than 15 June 2017.
Agronomist role:
The agronomist will be responsible for coordinating, consolidating, and ensuring smooth implementation of the project “Enhancement of Food Security and Livelihoods through the preservation of Al-Makhrour area in Beit Jala as agricultural lands” the project includes ( land reclamation and rehabilitation including (removing rocks, land levelling, land tilling), land fencing, land terracing, spring rehabilitation, supplying plastic tanks, planting and following up with workshops & technical training courses and other soft components; as well as ensuring adherence to CaritasJerusalem and donor guidelines and standards. He/she reports to the FSL&D head of department & the technical consultant.
Responsibilities:
- Regular field checks and supervision of the project implementation activities;
- Supervise on daily basis the skilled and unskilled workers and contractors;
- Create activity plans regarding to work-plans designed by the supervisor;
- Conducts field visits, attends meetings, trainings and project activities;
- Detailed computerized field reports & permanent record keeping;
- Participates in drafting projects documents such as official communications letters, tenders, cash flows, schedules, and reports;
- Coordinates internally with project staff to ensure smooth implementation of activities planned;
- Coordinates externally with beneficiaries and other groups as needed to ensure implementation of activities;
- Ensures timely data/document collection and filing of documents related to above activities;
- Other duties as necessary.
Required education and competencies:
- Bachelor degree in agricultural science.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in the agricultural sector preferably with NGOs;
- Demonstrated skills in Agro ecological tools and practices is a plus;
- Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office software, email, internet, spreadsheets;
- Good diagnostic and decision making skills;
- Proven ability to effectively communicate – verbal & written skills;
- Very good Arabic and English skills speaking, reading and writing;
- Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives without close supervision;
- Willingness to work as a team member;
- Ability to work outside during heat of day & ability to walk several kilometres per day.
Other requirements:
- Candidates must have a valid Driving license.
- Preference will be given to Bethlehem area residents.
- Advantage will be given to candidates who own a car.
