Field Psycho-Social & Recreational Workers, Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to Children and Families in Gaza
International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is an international non-governmental development and relief organisation, working worldwide to provide food, shelter, economic self-sufficiency, and hope. All assistance is provided on the basis of need alone. IOCC has been present in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza (JWBG) since 1997 providing assistance to vulnerable Palestinians and communities through various emergency relief and/or development programs.
IOCC is seeking highly skilled staff to be hired for the following positions of an anticipated project entitled: Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to Children and Families in Gaza:
Field Psycho-Social and Recreational Workers, Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to Children and Families in Gaza: Four Positions, duration 5 months (approximately), renewable upon availability of funding.
Summary of the Position:
The Field Psycho-Social and Recreational Workers (FPSW) will work under the direction of the Project Officer and the Program Director, IOCC Gaza Field Office in the management, implementation, supervision and monitoring of IOCC-JWBG Project: Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to Children and Families in Gaza. S/he will be supervising both the coordination, logistical, administrative and technical components of the work, and will be required to liaise and work closely with, Local Partner, local communities, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
These will include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Under the direct supervision and close coordination of the Project Officer – PSS-SEL, undertakes the community psycho-social support (PSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in all targeted locations as per project planned activities.
- Conduct psychosocial support and recreational interventions and sessions for targeted children, psychosocial support sessions for parents; individual counselling for Children and their parents. Provide support with regards to referral systems and support to specialized mental health services.
- Participation in the preparation and implementation of PSS and SEL sessions, education and awareness-raising interventions at the planned communities.
- Conduct field visits to the targeted communities and beneficiaries to fill and complete the required data and collect the requested documents.
- Provide psycho-social support and social emotional educational sessions and materials for the targeted children and their parents.
- Coordinate with psycho-social support services providers for referring the eligible cases for follow-up in the PSS available providers in the targeted communities.
- Monitor, guide and coach parents in their work with their targeted children on PSS and SEL
- Data collection and development of PSS and SEL files of children assessed at the targeted communities.
- Provide the Project Officer with daily field reports.
- Commitment to offer more volunteer time dedicated for the work purposes, if needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge and Skills: Psycho-social support and social emotional learning work technical and social work skills; interpersonal communication skills; advanced verbal communication skills; fluency in Arabic and English; presentation and tutoring skills, computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Windows package; and good reporting skills.
Competencies: Ability to build strong personal and community relationships with all project stakeholders and beneficiaries, partner organization, beneficiaries and other contacts; sensitivity to cultural conditions and practices; tenacity in observing procedures, regulations, local laws and other requirements in implementing and maintaining IOCC programs; ability to think strategically, analyze issues, and make appropriate recommendations.
Education: Bachelor degree in psychology or psychological counselling and early education from a recognized university.
Experience: A two-year experience in working on similar projects is preferred, working with international/local development and relief organizations, preferably in the country of assignment; focusing on emergency response and community work and project implementation.
