Medecins du Monde Switzerland has been present in the OPT (occupied Palestinian territories)
since 1994.

CHILDREN UNDER DETENTION PROJECT:
Numerous children living in the occupied Palestinian territories have been arrested and held in Israeli military detention and are often victims of physical and psychological violence. Victims of detention usually demonstrate long lasting effects that prevent them from overcoming the trauma, and as a consequence will prevent them from reintegrating in their families and society.
Based on previous experience with children and adolescents in Palestine, Medecins du Monde
Switzerland conducted a need assessment regarding children who have been under military detention.

FIELD SOCIAL WORKER JOB SUMMARY

The street social workers will be a part of Medecins du Monde Switzerland team in Palestine.
He/She will be working under the direct supervision of the program coordinator and the program officer. He/she will be responsible for planning and implementing the project in Beit Ummar and Al Arrub.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In close collaboration with the project team, He/she will implement the project in the selected areas

-Facilitate and organize workshops, trainings with the children ex-detainees
-Facilitate and organize workshops, trainings with the parents of the children
-Run daily outreach tours in the selected zones
-Ability to conduct family and youth visits
-Ability to conduct social interviews and assessments
-Ensure that the beneficiaries are constantly integrated in the activities, identify particular needs
and respond to it in a appropriate manner
-counselling
-write proper reports in a timely manner
-Ensure regular contacts and maintain good relationship with the resource persons and local
authorities
-Participate in the service providers and actors mapping, alert system and referral system
-Perform any other task assigned by the project coordinator

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

-We seek to find very motivated persons, easy-going, comfortable with teenagers.
-A diploma in Social work, education, psychology or other relevant diploma or experience.
-A very good understanding of child protection issues in addition to very good understanding of
children rights.
-Prior experience in open services required (home visits, street work, etc.)
-Interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to get along with people of diverse
backgrounds.
-Willing to work extensive hours in the streets of the villages to run outreach tour daily
-Willing to work flexible hours in priority after school, evenings, holidays and some week-ends
-Excellent Arabic and English language communication skills (written and verbal).
-Live in the Hebron or Bethlehem district (max 30' transportation from Beit Ummar and Al Arrub)
-Having own transportation is an asset
