  About Relief International

About our Country Program/ Regional Programs

Relief International was operational in OPT starting in 2007, and after entering hibernation period in 2017, has recently reactivated its operations at the end of 2023. Relief International is currently building its response to the current and evolving situation in both Gaza and the West Bank through both a direct implementation and partnership approach. Relief International’s programming in OPT follows Relief International’s global strategy with Health as a central focus with components linked to our work in Health through the sectors of WASH, Protection, Education and Livelihoods. The context in OPT is extremely dynamic and requires focus on nexus programming that brings together both humanitarian service delivery combined with systems strengthening and longer-term programming  Middle East Region RI operates in six countries in the Middle East region:  Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Yemen, with a focus on the four RI sector pillars: Health, WASH, Education and Economic Opportunity.  We employ more than 4,000 staff (direct and indirect) in the Middle East region and implement a range of humanitarian and development programs valued at approximately $70 million USD on an annual basis. 

 

 The Finance Assistant will support the finance team in managing daily financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements. Responsibilities include processing payments, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and assisting with audits. The role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team. Experience in accounting software and knowledge of NGO financial procedures are highly desirable. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring financial integrity and smooth operation of the organization’s activities.

Key responsibilities

 Data Entry and Accounting Procedures:

Supporting accounting procedures in accounting software.

Ensuring proper booking of accounts receivable/payable, prepaid accounts, etc in coordination with Finance Officer/Finance Manager

Ensure cash and bank reconciliations are made before closing the month.

Assist preparation of monthly tax returns, payments, clearance and reconciliation. Support CFM/FO in preparing monthly financial reports and reconciliations. 

 Archiving

Ensure all financial records have proper backups.

Name and organize files correctly for easy retrieval. 

Upload and maintain documents on the cloud. 

Follow retention policies and ensure secure storage.

Assist in retrieving records and supporting audits.

 Review of Vouchers:

Reviewing documents submitted for payments and advances.

Ensuring all backup paperwork is present and accurate. 

Verifying amounts, budget lines, and arithmetic accuracy.

Support FO/FM in reviewing implementing partners’ financial reports, back up documents, preparing and following up issues reports.

 Cash/Bank Affairs: 

 Asist FM and FO ensuring sufficient petty cash and bank funds in both currencies.  Reporting daily cash and bank balances to the team.

 Preparing payment vouchers and bank orders for review and signatures. 

Asist in cash bank withdrawals.

Other Tasks:

 Performing any other tasks as requested by the Finance Manager or Finance Officer.

 Person Specification

At least 2 years’ experience in a related position, experience in the humanitarian sector is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Native Arabic speaker, fluent in English.

Strong interpersonal and analytical skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with finance and non-finance teams.

Prior experience in finance, bookkeeping, or accounting (ideally in an NGO or non-profit sector). 

Strong MS Excel skills. 

Ability to manage multiple financial tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
