Financial Officer

Diakonia is a Swedish faith based development INGO working in partnership with over 400 civil-society organisations in 30 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Together with our partners we work with a long-term and rights-based perspective to strengthen democracy, human rights, social and economic justice, gender equality, and peace and reconciliation. Diakonia’s vision is for each and every human being to live a dignified existence in a just and sustainable world, free from poverty. Our mission is to change unfair political, economic and social structures that generate poverty, oppression and violence.

Our Regional Office for the Middle East is situated in East Jerusalem covering Palestine, Egypt and Lebanon.
Diakonia is presently in a decentralisation process, upgrading and further strengthening our country offices in the region. We are therefore advertising for a Financial Officer in Jerusalem.

Position: Financial Officer at the Regional/Country Office
Placement: Jerusalem
Period: As of January 2013
Work Percentage: 100%
Deadline for applications: 31 December 2012
Responsible to: Regional Administrator

Main responsibilities:
-Preparation and follow-up of book keeping at RO/CO Israel/Palestine
-Preparation of Bank, Cash, Receivables and Payable reconciliations
-Preparation of the RO/CO monthly financial report to HO
-Preparation of required information related to the deduction at source for the related suppliers
-Preparation of the required information related to the Vat refund and related refunds to the designated authorities
-Check, update and control the inventory and fixed assets lists
-Filling and archiving for documents and information
-Responsible for the procurement work and the compliance with Diakonia related procurement guidelines.
-Any other matters which can be requested from the Regional Administrator

Requirements:
-BA Major in Accounting, minor in Business Administration
-Minimum 3 years related work experience (in Accounting and Administration) in NGOs within the Civil Society sector
-Very good knowledge of accounting and book keeping
-Prior experience in programme financial reviews, i.e. budget reviews, financial report reviews and audit report reviews
-Ability to produce and analyze financial reports
-Planning and organization skills
-Good command of English/Arabic
-Good writing skills
-Good Communications skills
-Driver’s license is an asset
