About our Country Program/ Regional Programs
Relief International was operational in OPT starting in 2007, and after entering hibernation period in 2017, has recently reactivated its operations at the end of 2023. Relief International is currently building its response to the current and evolving situation in both Gaza and the West Bank through both a direct implementation and partnership approach. Relief International’s programming in OPT follows Relief International’s global strategy with Health as a central focus with components linked to our work in Health through the sectors of WASH, Protection, Education and Livelihoods. The context in OPT is extremely dynamic and requires focus on nexus programming that brings together both humanitarian service delivery combined with systems strengthening and longer-term programming
Middle East Region
RI operates in six countries in the Middle East region:  Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and oPT, with a focus on the four RI sector pillars: Health, WASH, Education and Economic Opportunity.  We employ more than 4,000 staff (direct and indirect) in the Middle East region and implement a range of humanitarian and development programs valued at approximately $70 million USD on an annual basis.

Job Profile

Relief International (RI) currently seeks a dynamic, hands-on secondary health care coordinator (SHC-C) to support our OPT Program.  The SCH-C will report and receive support from the health and nutrition technical advisor to ensure quality implementation of SHC in Gaza. The SHC-C will work in collaboration with RI secondary health care partners, ECHO program manager to form the core team of RI SHC activity. The SCH-C will be required to participate in planning of RI SHC activities in Gaza, oversee implementation and ensure timely reporting. SHC-C will also collaborate with RI capacity building partner to conduct training needs assessment, develop and implement training plans. In collaboration with the RI pharmacist and supply chain team, the SHC-C will work to ensure good management of medical supplies including reviewing monthly consumption reports submitted by the partners. SHC-C will work closely with the nutrition coordinator to establish and maintain referral pathways for health and nutrition services.

Key responsibilities 

General management
  • Participate in developing activity plans for RI SHC support in Gaza
  • In collaboration with RI partners, oversee implementation of Secondary health care activities in RI supported hospitals in Gaza.
  • Coordinate with RI SHC partners to ensure timely reporting of RI SHC activities in Gaza.
  • Coordinate with program manager, RI partners and supply chain teams in distribution of medical supplies including pharmaceuticals.
  • Support RI partners in establishing referral pathways between health facilities and other inter-agency referrals.
Program quality
  • Plan and participate in supervision activities ensuring that RI supervision checklist if filled for all supported departments, action plans are developed and proposed actions are executed in collaboration with RI partner.
  • Coordinate with RI partner to conduct formal and on-the-job training of hospital staff as per the training needs assessment.
  • In collaboration with the health and nutrition technical advisor, fill in the quarterly quality benchmarks, propose, and execute actions to improve quality of service.
  • In collaboration with RI partner, monitor and ensure strict implementation of infection prevention and control (IPC) activities in all supported departments in the hospital.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning
  • Coordinate with RI partner, PM and MEAL Team to document lessons learnt and success stories.
  • Work in coordination with RI partner, PM and MEAL team to timely respond to feedback and complaints from the beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate with RI partners, PM and MEAL team to review monthly hospital data for RI supported activities and apply corrective measures where required
  • Take part in MEAL supervision visits including data audit related activities.
  • Participate in needs assessment/ survey activities related to secondary health care activities, 
 Representation/coordination with external actors
  • Represent RI at health sub-cluster and technical working groups.
  • Build relationship and coordinate with RI secondary health care and capacity building partners in Gaza.

 Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role.

Essential criteria:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in medicine/nursing.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in public health in Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) with 2yrs clinical experience in secondary health care.
  • Able to transfer technical knowledge and skills and experience of coaching and capacity building of teams
  • Excellent English writing skills.
  • Good Arabic speaking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and tasks efficiently.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience implementing ECHO funded project.
