The Palestinian Youth Union (PYU) was established in 1992, formally registered after Palestinian Authority came at the Ministry of Interior under registration number RA-2229-CU as a non-governmental (NGO), non-profit, voluntary youth organization, that assemble all youth groups and children regardless of any divisions.
-The PYU with the support of UNDP is implementing "Strengthening the Legal Culture of Young People and Women in Palestinian Society" project. The project is designed to defend women's and young people rights, basic liberties, enhance the process of democratic transformation, strengthen the concept of rule of law by demonstrating the role played by the formal and non-formal groups, officials, and erect sound civil society. This include; disengaging women from restrictions imposed and get them involved into social and political decision making process through an ample participation in the democratization process; promoting women and youth rights and improving free expression; and to strengthen the role of civil society in monitoring the performances of public institutions, security services and practices with particular emphasis on transparency and respect of human rights.
-The project is seeking to recruit a human rights consultant to provide technical support and expertise to the project team as clarified below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Human Rights consultant will be working with the project team to;
-Provide know-how on human rights promotion in development planning, and on related political, legal and social developments;
-Provide expert advice on capacity building programmes and human rights education activities for the project;
-Participate in designing human rights information and education activities, and in developing training and education materials for use by the project
-Prepare various written outputs, e.g., background papers, analyses, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. including status reports and final reports on project implementation
Expected qualifications:
-University degree in law, political science, international relations, or human rights
-At least four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the human rights field
-Experience of human rights training and education
-Familiarity with human rights-based approach (HRBA) in development
-Excellent command of English and Arabic languages
-Familiarity with office applications, particularly PowerPoint™ and Excel™.
Contract:
Contract type: service contract
Assignment duration: 11 months
