ICT Officer
The British Consulate-General in Jerusalem is seeking an individual for the position of Information
Communications Technology (ICT) Officer, starting in October 2013. Initial duration of the contract is
for one year, with the option for extension for another year.
Purpose of the job:
To contribute to the British Government prosperity objectives and develop the
Palestinian economy by promoting partnerships between Palestinian and British companies working in ICT. To work with these companies, positioning the UK as the ideal partner to provide sources of funding, partnership and market opportunity.
Duties and responsibilities:
Developing commercial awareness: Learn about and develop working relationships with emerging
technology companies based in the OPT. Develop awareness of ICT industry in UK – identifying start ups, angel investors, venture capital firms, potential partners and companies with complimentary technology.
Building a network: Establish contact and form relationships with CEOs, founders and executives from these companies. Support Palestinian companies to position them in the UK when they go international.
Creating partnerships: Attract UK companies to invest and partner with innovative Palestinian companies.
Advise HMG and potential investors on the importance of developing the Palestinian ICT sectors. Identify specific opportunities for British Companies to help Palestinian based companies grow.
Conduct marketing in the OPTs that demonstrates the suitability of the UK as an ideal partner helping promote the success of OPT companies. Promote the Palestinian ICT sector as a capable
and quality partner in the ICT outsourcing, Arabic content and call centre businesses.
Joint working with Tel Aviv Embassy: Establish a strategic working relationship with the UK Israel
Tech Hub at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv to organise joint business development activities.
Help increase interaction between Palestinian and Israeli-Arab companies.
Plan events: Identify ICT innovation events, seminars and conferences with the aim to attend, learn,
network and potentially secure presenting and speaking opportunities for you, LE 2 Commercial
Officer and Consul-General.
Set up, organize, and host various Hub-run networking and informational events and seminars,
attracting the best industry players with the aim of positioning the British Consulate as the first and last word on the OPT ICT scene.
Experience:
3+ years working within the ICT field (or closely related fields)
Experience of working in a start-up a strong plus
Experience with business development, sales and marketing, project and product management and PR are all strong advantages
Relevant Bachelors degree
MBA, or equivalent (business related Masters degree) is a plus
Must have a broad knowledge of the ICT industry
Knowledge of, and experience with, both UK and OPT companies, business landscapes and cultures would be a strong plus
Strong connections in the UK and/or Israel cleantech world is a strong plus
Adept at using social media and networks
