ICU NURSE

MSF-Belgium is currently seeking to hire an ICU NURSE.
Main Purpose:
The ICU Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to critically ill patients, including those on invasive ventilation, ensuring their safety, comfort, and recovery. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the abil-ity to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Accountabilities:
- Patient Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for ICU patients, including those requiring invasive ventilation.
- Ventilator Management: Monitor and adjust ventilator settings, ensure the patency of airways, and manage ventilator-associated complications.
- Monitoring: Continuously monitor vital signs, neurological status, ventilator parameters, and fluid balance; adjust care plans as needed.
- Medication Management: Safely administer medications and IV fluids according to established protocols, including sedatives, analgesics, and other medications for ventilated patients.
- Equipment Handling: Operate and maintain ICU-specific medical equipment, including ventilators, ensuring functionality and safety.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, participating in rounds and contributing to patient care decisions, especially regarding ventilation strategies.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough patient records, including ventilator settings, patient response, and any changes in condition.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding patient status and care plans, including updates on ventilator management.
- Infection Control: Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols, especially in managing invasive devices, to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
Context Specific Accountabilities:
General duties:
- Performs nursing activities required for patient care, according to MSF protocols of (ICU) nursing departments.
- Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, ventilator management, monitoring, daily rounds, and other medical procedures needed in the ICU.
- Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
- Keeps adequate recording of received and used supplies needed for nursing activities in her/his assigned working station.
- Participating in pharmacy management and medical equipment control and maintenance.
- Maintains a high standard of infection control to ensure the safety of staff and clients;
- Compliance with all relevant safety, quality, health, and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
Nursing care ICU patients:
- Wound care and dressing, assessments of patients with wounds to determine the appropriate wound care and dressing requirements.
- Ventilator management, IV management, medication management, nutrition management, comfort care, pain management, IPC measures
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including detailed documentation
- Complete required reports and forms in a timely manner, adhering to organizational and regulatory standards.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, ICU doctors, surgeons, and physical therapists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies within the field hospital
- Administer first aid and emergency care as required.

Education : Nurse Bachelor.
English: English speaking preferred
Experience:
- Desirable at least 2 years experience in ICU
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, and ICU equipment, particularly ventilators.
- Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations and make quick, informed decisions.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and delivering compassionate care
Competencies:
- Good communication skills and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and clients.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Adequate computer skills.
- Self-motivated and willing to learn from others.
- Acts in accordance with professional ethics and values.
