Job Title:Information Technology Assistant ( Web Based Developer)
Contract:Special Service Agreement  (SB 3)
Duration :
3 months
Location:Ramallah / Jerusalem   ( 3-4 days per week in Ramallah & 1-2 days per   week in Jerusalem )         

Duties and Responsibilities:
Within delegated authority, the IT Assistant (Web Based Developer) will be responsible for the following  duties: (These duties are generic and thus are not all-inclusive nor are all duties carried out by all Information Technology Assistants).


Build and/or rebuild a web-based Portal for Palestinian Emergency Preparedness Information System (PEPRIS).
-Work with WFP Emergency Preparedness unit in Jerusalem and with WFP Palestinian partners (in Ramallah) on gathering the requirements of the required PEPRIS Portal.
-Build a database for PEPRIS and/or customize an existing one using modern database systems such as MySQL server or MS-SQL server.
-Restructure the PEPRIS database with in-line information from partners, with multi-lingual support mainly (English, and Arabic languages).
-Fill the database using different data entry methods (e.g. manual data entry, GPS/GPRS, or transactions from other database sources.)
-Design a user friendly web-based Portal, or redesign (i.e. customize) an existing Portal for the PEPRIS case, using modern Portal technologies (mainly PHP and/or .NET).
-Ensure the designed Web-based Portal is scalable, modular (for future customization) and bugs-free.
-Ensure backup strategy for the designed Web-based Portal and database.
-Ensure the designed Web-based Portal and database is fully documented for future reference.
-Train WFP staff and partners on using and daily updating of the portal.
-Able to travel and work in Jerusalem and Ramallah, (3-4 days per week at in Ramallah. 1-2 days at WFP Country Office in Jerusalem).


Qualifications & Experience:

Education:
University degree preferably, in Computer Science, Computer programming or Information Technology.

Experience:
-Minimum four years of progressively technical experience in Information Technology and/or database and Computer programming.
-Having experience in Database design and administration. (mainly MySQL, and/or MS-SQL servers)
-Having experience in Portal and Web design; and computer programming languages (such as PHP, and/or ASP.NET and Java scripts).
-Having experience in GPS and on-line mapping.

Language:
Excellent English and Arabic (written and spoken).

Desirable skills:
Good communication skills, teamwork, and knowledge of UN system policies, rules and regulations.
