Arabic-English Interpreter and Office Administrator
Overview:
The International Legal Foundation (ILF) is a New York based not-for-profit public defender organization created to assist in the establishment of fair criminal justice systems in post-conflict countries. The ILF was established in 1997 to ensure that the reconstruction of post-conflict justice systems includes a focus on indigent defense. The ILF currently has projects in Afghanistan and Nepal and is opening an office in Ramallah.
Interpreter and Administrator:
The ILF is seeking an Arabic-English interpreter to work full-time for an initial period of six months as the ILF opens its office in Ramallah. The Interpreter and Administrator will translate legal material and court proceedings for international staff of the ILF and will be responsible for contributing to the set-up and administration of the office, which will open with a staff of approximately four people.
Responsibilities:
Translation
-Provide English translations of written legal material
-Provide English translation of court proceedings
-Provide translation between English- and Arabic-speaking staff
-Provide Arabic/English translation for any necessary correspondence
Administration
-Assist in initial set-up of the office by identifying and securing the following: potential office space, vendors for office supplies, equipment, internet service providers, phone service.
-Manage vendor relationships for all office services, including office space, phones, internet, computers.
-Arrange travel for volunteers and for employees as requested
-Track all invoices and bills
-Make bank deposits
Office Maintenance
-Schedule office cleaning
-Keep water, cups, paper towels, light bulbs, cleaning supplies in stock
-Keep office supplies in stock, including folders, printer supplies, copier supplies, paper, pens, etc
-Handle all shipping and mailing
Qualifications and Experience:
-Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken
-Experience with legal translation
-Strong communication skills and an ability to work diplomatically and maintain confidentiality
-Past administrative or office management experience
-Computer proficiency, specifically working with Microsoft Office Suite
