IREX is an international nonprofit organization providing thought leadership and innovative programs to promote positive lasting change globally. IREX enables local individuals and institutions to build key elements of a vibrant society: quality education and innovative youth development programming, independent media, and strong communities.
In the West Bank and Gaza, IREX is implementing the USAID-funded Partnerships with Youth (PWY) program. The PWY Program expands educational and leadership opportunities for young people aged 14-29 throughout the West Bank by creating sustainable hubs for youth innovation and learning, called Youth Development Resource Centers (YDRCs). PWY supports YDRCs throughout the West Bank to offer otherwise unavailable services and programming for youth to prepare them for a successful transition to adulthood and help ensure economic and civic participation in their communities.
Summary of Position:
The Leadership & Youth-led Initiatives Specialist will provide technical expertise and project management for all activities under the Leadership Development component of the PWY program.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
-Develop an annual work plan for leadership skills training and other activities in cooperation with the Youth Programs Manager;
-Review and update the Leadership in Action (LIA) training content, agenda, and materials;
-Deliver youth-focused LIA training-of-trainers (TOT) workshops and other leadership training courses;
-Provide tailored follow-up and mentoring to the leadership interns at the YDRCs during their delivery of LIA training;
-Provide creative and innovative ideas, guidance, and feedback to the YDRCs on their leadership programming;
-Review technical reports and deliverables submitted by the YDRCs as part of their monthly grant payment requests;
-In coordination with the Youth Programs Manager, oversee the PWY Leaders in Influence training program and provide support to participating youth leaders on the implementation of their projects;
-In coordination with the Youth Programs Manager, manage PWY’s competitive Youth-led Initiatives (YLI) program, including issuing YLI applications, overseeing the selection processes, assisting youth with the implementation of their YLIs, and monitoring and reporting on the results of the YLIs;
-Ensure the concepts of positive youth development (PYD) and service learning (SL) are cross-cutting themes throughout all PWY activities; and
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
-A university degree in social work, community development, or other relevant field.
-At least five years of relevant work experience in youth development, education, civic education, and/or community engagement programs.
-Knowledge and understanding of positive youth development and gender strategies a plus.
-Previous experience working for an international NGO or similar work environment is preferable.
-Prior experience in youth development or with a youth-serving organization a plus.
-Experience designing and implementing training for youth strongly preferred.
-Must be a self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work under minimum supervision.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with team members.
-Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
-Fluency in Arabic and English language skills.
