Local Project Assistant / Interpreter
The European Union Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM Rafah) was launched on 24 November 2005 to monitor the operations of the border crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Egypt as third-party, after Israel and the Palestinian Authority concluded an Agreement on Movement and Access on 15 November 2005. Since 2014, EUBAM Rafah has also been engaged with the Palestinian Authority (PA) with a capacity building project (the PA Preparedness Project) to enhance the PA General Administration for Border and Crossing (GABC) capacities to redeploy to the RCP and manage it according to international standards
Currently the office of EUBAM Rafah locates in Ramat Gan, Israel, and the Mission is seeking for a candidate to temporarily replace the position of Local Project Assistant / Interpreter during the maternity leave

Duties and responsibilities: reporting to Integrated Border Management Expert (IBM Expert)
Main tasks
Assists Mission project management during activities’ planning, implementation and evaluation phases
Assists Mission project management in coordinating with reporting section while drafting documents related to Missions activities
Assists with interpretation and translation as required during, field visits, meetings and any other translation duties
Other tasks and responsibilities
Assists international mission members in contacting their local counterparts, in confidence building and maintaining good relationship with them
Provides professional simultaneous or consecutive interpretation, during workshops, trainings, conferences and other events
Provides mission members with a grammatically correct, well-expressed, high standard final version of translated texts from English to Modern Standard Arabic and Hebrew or vice versa
Ensures that the meaning of the source text is retained
Uses specialized dictionaries, thesauruses, and references in English, Hebrew and Modern Standard Arabic to find the closest equivalents for terminology and wording used
Researches legal, technical and border-related terminology to find the most accurate and faithful translation within the given context
Uses appropriate software for the presentation and delivery of translated documents
Proofreads and edits final translated versions or any other document to ensure high quality of language and content
Shows awareness about confidentiality of information
Proves knowledge and sense how to handle sensitive issues
Provides local cultural advice to international mission members
Continuously develops knowledge, learning skill and practice
Solid work ethics, punctuality, commitment to quality, careful attention to detail, ability to perform under stress, willingness to work flexible hours, good multi-tasking and organizational skills
Demonstrates self-discipline, flexibility and service delivery
Performs other duties as required by the Head of Mission and the Strategical Planning and Organization Expert and acts as back-up for translators of the Mission

Skills and qualifications
University degree (minimum 3 years of full-time studies) in Interpretation/Translation or other relevant fields or minimum of 6 years of professional experience after successful completion of secondary education in lieu of the required university degree may be considered
Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferable in border policing, customs and / or legal context
Languages
Fluency in English, Hebrew and Modern Standard Arabic is mandatory
Other skills/competences
Ability to operate Windows and Power Point applications, including Word processing and e-mail and spreadsheets (Excel)
Ability to provide professional simultaneous, consecutive, and whispered interpretation
Deep experience in reporting activities
International experience, particularly from the CSDP and other international missions in crisis areas with multi-national and international organizations highly desirable
Additional Requirements
Valid driving license B (mandatory)
Currently hold a valid local work permit to work and drive in West Bank, Gaza and Israel
ID-card allowing free movement inside Israel and the West Bank (mandatory)
