Mount of Green Olives company, MGO, is a Palestinian export company specialised in buying, conditioning, marketing and selling olive oil, serving various International and Regional markets.

In order to increase our supply capacity of quality Palestinian olive oil, we run since 2023 a dedicated Olive Value Chain development program designed to improve the quality of available olive oil by strengthening the business relationships with our local olive oil suppliers, i.e. selected olive farmers and farmers’ cooperatives, as well as selected village-based olive oil milling companies.

MGO company currently wants to contract an individual professional (M/F) or consultant company competent in business development involving enterprises with at least three types of entrepreneurship:

  • MGO export company Ltd, based in Ramallah and Beita
  • Village-based milling companies, mostly family-owned and family-managed
  • Village-based farmers’ cooperatives, member-ownership and elected management

The business development conultant will join and collaborate intensively with the present MGO team, notably our field-based agronomists who are implementing a programme of technical advisory and training activities with groups of olive farmers and millers, since 2023. He/she will mainly coordinate with the business development advisor based in Netherlands in planning, implementing and follow up with relevant activities in the field where applicable.

He or she will coordinate within three sets of professional tasks and responsibilities:

  • Key responsibilities for business development of the MGO company
  • Contribute in developing a comprehensive business plan and marketing strategy to penetrate international and different markets being local, regional and international
  • Facilitate the implementation of action plans to identify and secure international sales leads and prospects
  • Follow up to maintain robust relationships with all international clients to achieve high customer satisfaction levels.
  • Propose and analyse best applicable scenarios for strengthening business relations with all stakeholders within the value chain (mills, farmers and cooperation) towards win-win business partnership.

 

  • Key responsibilities for SME business development of selected village olive oil mills
  • Implement a visit schedule to all participating mills and their owners for a quick scan; agree on a first selection of miller with potential and interest in improving their company
  • Contribute in identifying and developing together with the selected individual miller-owner and/or miller-manager an adapted and tailor-made business plans/trajectory and, when and where appropriate, a feasible investment plan and finance plan; advises/mentors in its implementation
  • Assist and facilitate access to external financing of the investment plan; networking with MFI’s, SME Investment and co-financing projects…
  • Key responsibilities for SME business development of selected olive farmers’ cooperatives
  • Visit the participating cooperatives and their leadership for a quick scan of capacities, competences and potentials of growth;
  • Identify and develop with the cooperative leadership/ board an adapted and tailor-made business plan/ trajectory and when and where appropriate, a feasible investment plan and finance plan; advises/mentors in its implementation
  • Assist and facilitate access to external financing of the investment plan; networking with MFI’s, SME Investment and co-financing projects

Required personal and professional capacity and experience 

Our business development professional is expected to have:

  1. . A minimum of 6 years of experience in business development, preferably in the SME food sector
  2. Advisory and mentoring experience and familiarity with challenges facing start-ups and existing enterprises and barriers to formalization and growth and expansion.
  3. Experience in value chain analysis and strengthen partners towards win-win business relations.
  4. Excellent analytical, technical, and conceptual knowledge of business management, as well as a strong grasp of different entrepreneurial settings with different management styles and practices.
  5. He/she is a good communicator, a team player and a reliable colleague.
  6. Good command of English language written, reading and speaking. All business plans are to be written in Arabic.
