in the South of the Gaza Strip, through specialized medical and surgical care”
KEY INFORMATION

SUMMARY
The objective of this position is to define and implement the medical (surgical) strategy of the project
named “Improve the access of children and adolescents to the orthopedics and trauma services in
the South of the Gaza Strip, through specialized medical and surgical care” . The selected candidate
will be responsible of the medical implementation of the project and will advises the Project Manager
on technical medical issues and management of surgical aspects. This includes:
- Define medical strategy of the project.
- Maintain a strong coordination with the pediatric and orthopedic department of MoH Hospital.
- Organization of Medical missions.
- Create and update a patient database.
- Define and negotiate protocols to reduce the risk of infection.
- Management and analysis project data together with the Project Manager.
GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE OF INTERVENTION
Gaza Strip. The position will be based in Gaza City, with frequent visits to Khan Yunis.
ORGANIZATION CHART
The selected candidate will be part of the project team and will report to the Project Manager.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
The project seeks to reduce the functional disabilities of affected population in the south of the Gaza
Strip, focusing on children and adolescents with congenital malformations and functional disabilities
that are not currently being met. The project aims to improve the access to specialized surgical care,
to strengthen the capacities of the paediatric and orthopaedic departments of Nasser Hospital and to
reduce the risk of post-operative infections.
FUNCTIONS
Planning and programing role
- Contribute in the definition of the operational strategy, including a medical mission calendar in
coordination with the Hospital Orthopedic Department.
- Participate in developing/updating medical protocols.
- Identify and planning training sessions to improve the skills of the hospital medical staff.
- Monitor and inform about the health needs (particularly related to surgical/emergency needs).
- Contribute in drafting new project proposals with the General Coordinator and Project Manager.
Monitoring and reporting role
- Design and implement project’s monitoring and evaluation tools to report and assess medical cases
and surgical interventions.
- Ensure data collection and patients database is updated after every medical mission and the
information is relevant and compatible with MoH standards and donor reporting requirements.
- Ensure the use of MdM visibility materials during project implementation as well as MdM formats
and tools are implemented.
- Support Project Manager in preparing monthly reports for the General Coordinator and MoH,
based on adequately compiled analysis of project medical and surgical data and referral activities.
- Advise and support the Project Manager regarding the development and progress of the project
according to the approved workplan.
Clinical Support role
- Ensure clinical supervision of the patient screening.
- Collaborate in the outpatient’s clinic collecting relevant information.
- Ensure all clinical/surgical staff observe good practice in pre and post-operative patient care.
- Ensure adequate standards are being observe during sterilization of surgical material.
- Ensure adequate standards are maintained in collection and disposal of clinical waste.
Communication and coordination role
-Establish and maintain periodic relationship with the representatives of the Pediatric and Orthopedic
Departments at Nasser Hospital.
-To act as a liaison between the medical staff at Nasser Hospital and MdM volunteers involved in the
project implementation
- Initiate and maintain contacts with other medical organizations to stimulate cooperation.
- Attend meetings with national health authorities and relevant stakeholders when it will be required
by the Project Manager.
Human resources role
- Support Project Manager in writing/revising the profile of the volunteers who will participate in the
scheduled medical mission.
- Supervise and support the international medical and surgical teams during the implementation of
the scheduled medical mission.
Other Specific Tasks
- Technical support for purchase orders of material supply and consumable stocks.
- Ensure the good use and proper storage of the material supply and consumable stocks.
- Ensure that an accurate monitoring and forecasting of product consumption is done.
- Ensure that surgical equipment and devices are regularly maintained.
- Ensure safety and quality of health care structures and facilities during the project implementation
(including infection control and other preventive measures).
REQUIREMENTS
Professional Training:
- Medical doctor (preferred option) or nurse.
- Specialization in pediatrics or orthopedic surgery will be an advantage.
Working experience:
- Preferably 18-24 months International NGO field experience in Gaza.
- Experience in management of medical programs.
- Knowledge of clinical topics relevant to surgical care i.e. infection control, sterilization techniques,
post-operative infections.
- Experience in implementing projects with the Ministry of Health.
Specific Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability in report writing
- Ability to motivate and lead a culturally diverse medical team.
- Stress management and flexibility during the implementation of medical missions.
- Experience working in complex emergency context.
- Strict compliance with the safety protocols established by Médicos del Mundo.
- Alignment with principles and ethics of Medicos del Mundo.
Language requirements:
- Fluent in Arabic and English (spoken, reading and writing).
- Knowledge of Spanish will be an asset.
Computer literacy:
- Microsoft Office package (especially Word, Excel and Outlook).
- SPSS and/or statistical software will be an asset.
SALARY CONDITIONS
Salary scales of Médicos del Mundo in the country will be applicable.
