Medical Interpreter

MSF Spain is looking for a Medical Interpreter in Gaza to support in verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population    )

We expect you to share our humanitarian values to offer assistance to people based on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. In MSF we treat our beneficiaries with dignity, and with respect for their cultural and religious beliefs.

Accountabilities:

• Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.
• Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.
• Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
• Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
• Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
• Have a background in medical or nursing training to ensure proper translation of medical terminology, including especially maternity, pediatrics and primary health care activities
• Have knowledge in mental health and psychological terminology, including MHGap and PFA
• Awareness and capacity to address sensitive subject matters with discression and confidentiality including sexual and gender based violence, child protection cases, psyquiatric cases etc...
• Be able to work in medical environments with open wounds, bodily fluids, invasive procedures and stressful conditions, such as mass casulaty events, OT, delivery room and malnutrition.

Education

Essential secondary education, university degree desirable, health knowledge advisable.

Essential, bilingual in both mission language and local languages and/or dialects: Arabic and English.
