Mental Health Doctor
SUMMARY
Médicos del Mundo-Spain (MdM-S), is an international humanitarian organization, working to make effective the Universal Right to Health. MdM is a non-profitable, non-governmental, non-political, and non-confessional organization operating under the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
MdM-S has been working in the oPt since 2006. Its work has been oriented to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and Primary Healthcare. In the Gaza Strip, the MdM-S strategy aims for the improvement of mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. This intervention is focused on the strengthening of governmental children and adolescent’s mental health services, and community organizations working with children and adolescents through a capacity-building approach. This includes training activities and materials and equipment provision.
The main responsibilities and activities of the Mental Health Doctor can change according to the organization of the work and changes in priorities:
- Programming
Technical/ operational organization
- Support the process of Promoting Mental Health integration on different healthcare levels.
- Support the process of quality MHPSS integration in Primary Health Care.
- Create client pathway for MHPSS needs in Health-care facilities
- Support the process of integrating specific MH Conditions in patient records.
- Support the process of defining roles and responsibilities for the detection, management, and referral of MH Cases.
- Support the process of creating the link between communities, hospitals, PHCC, and the CMHC and Psychiatric Hospital for referral of MH Cases.
- Support the implementation of the Mental Health National Referral System.
- Support the Mental Health Manager in organizing relevant meetings in the hospital, PHC, MH Directorate/unit, and other partners if needed to ensure proper follow-up of detected and referred cases.
- Support the MdM MH Department in the creation of MHPSS training materials Support the implementation of MH GAP Guidelines, and MHPSS Modules on different levels
- Provide Technical supervision for mental health activities implemented at Health facilities and communities.
- Provide MHPSS services and basic health promotion at the community level, adapted to the context and culture.
- Assist in scheduling and organizing specific workshops and trainings in the MdM office, MdM Partners, PHCC, hospital, or other relevant places.
- Makes sure that any materials or tools are validated by MdM, MH Directorate/unit, through direct supervisor before implementation.
- Ensure that the promotion of Community Feedback and Complaints Mechanisms is included in all the activities implemented, especially at the community level.
- Reporting, follow-up, and monitoring:
- Provide program operational reports based on the request of the Mental Health Manager.
- Provide monthly reports of activities not later than the 5th of the following month.
- Contribute to the data analysis in collaboration with the Mental Health Manager.
- Immediately report any situations of MdM attention related to the above tasks.
- Provide any other requested report when needed.
- Security:
- Apply and respect MDM security rules in the mission.
- Others:
- Maintain good socio-professional relationships with national and international partners.
- Attend team meetings and give qualitative input.
- Perform other additional duties at the request of the Mental Health manager when needed.

Requested Competence/Skills/Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in medicine, Post Graduate Degree in Mental Health (or similar relevant background)
- Experience in the detection and Management of Mental Health Conditions in Healthcare settings
- Good Knowledge of DSM 5 Manual & MH GAP Guidelines
- Experience in MH GAP training
- Experience in working with INGOs.
- Capacity to organize & conduct training.
- Good supervision & reporting skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Good command of English and Arabic languages (both written and spoken).
- Computer skills (word, excel, PowerPoint, statistics software…).
- Valid Certificate of practicing the profession.
- Driving license (as an asset)
