Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Project in West Bank and Gaza

 

The Palestinian Ministry of Health Authority with World Health Organization office in West Bank and Gaza (WHO), are implementing “The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Project in West Bank and Gaza”, funded by the European Commission from 2007-2010, intend to recruit a Governance Officer at the Mental Health Unit in the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The main objective of the Governance officer assignment is to assist the Mental Health Unit to develop and implement the Governance Strategy of the Mental Health Unit, to develop and encourage high quality, effective and evidence-based practices in mental health services and to take a lead on the formulation and development of the legislation, information and referral mental health systems.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Director of the Mental Health Unit the governance officer is responsible for:

1-      To develop and implement the Governance Strategy of the Mental Health Unit.

2-     To establish and monitor an effective drug administration process including the appropriate

3-     use of psychotropic drugs.

4-     To assist in the development of the accreditation system for mental health professionals.

5-     To develop and keep updated an effective mental health Information system.

6-     To lead and support the development of Governance across the services of the MoH. To maintain awareness of and communicate governance initiatives and requirements effectively to staff within the MoH.

7-     To provide advice and support to service improvement and other projects to ensure Governance issues are integrated into the strategy.

8-     To provide advice and leadership to all mental health professionals within the MoH, offering advice about current governance practice, quality, safety and service development.

9-     To be the key point of contact for the MH Unit with other Directorates and non-governmental agencies with regards to governance issues.

 10-To contribute to the development of mental health quality standards.

Qualifications

1-     Advanced degree in health policy or mental health, or health management.

2-     At least five years experience in governance/management of health system.

3-     Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic.

4-     Experienced user of MS Word, MS Excel.

5-     Highly motivated, efficient, team worker, flexible, demonstrates initiative.

 

The duration of the position is two years.
