The WHO office for West Bank and Gaza wishes to recruit a National Professional Public Health
Officer (NPO) for its office in Jerusalem, The NPO plays a key role in shaping, implementing and
supporting WHO’s programmes in Palestine and in liaising with the MoH.
Description of duties:
1-Maintain good communications and joint work with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Palestinian
National Authority (PA) other agencies
2-Manage the implementation of the Joint Programme Review Mission (JPRM) in the country by:
-Leading and coordinating the formulation of the two year programme cycle with the MoH;
-Following up implementation of training activities conducted inside and outside the country;
-Planning and supporting the field visits of consultants with the MoH.
3-Support the development and implementation of WHO projects (eg EC project with East Jerusalem Hospitals) by:
-Preparing project plans and follow-up implementation of project activities;
-Liaising with partners on issues related to project implementation;
-Organizing and follow up on training activities.
4-Contribute to the design and implementation of WHO key programmes and activities in priority
areas e.g. health information, emergency and preparedness, women’s health and nutrition by:
-Preparing project plans and following-up on the implementation of the activities;
-Representing WHO meetings and workshops;
-Facilitating technical support from WHO Regional Office and HQ

Experience and Qualifications required:
-University Degree in medicine or a health related field from a recognized university. A Masters
Degree in Public Health is desirable.
-At least 10 years professional working experience in the health sector, preferably in the field of
public health. Previous work experience with NGOs or UN agencies is desirable.
-Knowledge of the national health system
-Excellent organizational, management analytical and inter-personal skills.
-Excellent command of English and Arabic. Knowledge of Hebrew and French would be an
asset.
Duration of contract: The initial period of recruitment is for 12 months, with possibility of an
extension.
