Nutrition Assistant

For 03 months.

General Objective:

AAH has been scaling up its emergency response to the October 2023 escalation of conflict and is increasing its teams to ensure timely and effective distribution and supervision of emergency activities.

• Coordinate implementation of the community-based activities i.e. supplementary feeding programs (SFP), prevention and management of wasting, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling and nutrition & health awareness sessions including hygiene and reproductive health topics.  
• Ensure programmatic consistency and good collaboration amongst the nutrition and hygiene promotion staff as well as other sectors, like WASH and food security and livelihoods (FSL) for a comprehensive and integrated approach towards supporting project beneficiaries. 

 Tasks and responsibilities:

Objective 1: Assist in conducting community awareness campaign

• Providing nutrition sensitization sessions to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and other caregivers of children, as well as women of reproductive age and men and boys on infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, nutrition in emergencies as well as sexual and reproductive health and general wellbeing.
• Assist in community mobilization collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure maximum participation and coverage of services.
• Assist in designing activity tools for the sensitization sessions

Objective 2: Programmes’ activities

• Conduct screening, treatment or supplementation management and follow up of beneficiaries from SFP/CMAM/IYCF programs to the best practices.
• Collaborate on collecting information for and utilizing of supporting documents and materials needed for SFP/CMAM/IYCF implementation and produce field reports when required.
• Participate in needs assessments as required (mass MUAC screening, IYCF assessments, etc).
• Provide sessions, discussions, and disseminate informative materials to targeted population at nutrition sites and through home visits.
• Mobilize and inform the community on project activities and identify potential community focal points.

Objective 3: Reporting and coordination

• Daily reporting of field activities to the Nutrition Officer (materials delivered, work achieved, beneficiaries’ attendance, obstacles and constrains) taking into consideration reporting requirements and monitoring and/or evaluation tools and indicators.
• Support the nutrition officer in the preparation of reports.
• Participate in the preparation and collection of data for communication, advocacy and capitalization purposes (case studies, etc)

• Basic medical background (midwife, nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, public health, mental health) or other backgrounds such as education or social work.
• Skilled to interact with community members.
• Good listening, empathy, communication and adaptation skills.
• Capacity and motivation to learn on the job in a short space of time.
• Have a minimum knowledge on infant and young child feeding and care practices is a preference
• Work with women and children in any capacity.
• Field experience in food security and nutrition context in the Gaza Strip is a plus.
• Knowledge in humanitarian/emergency and/or development programming is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, strong team spirit and observation skills
• Fluency in reading, writing and speaking Arabic, ideally basic English
• Knowledge in Kobo, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook is a plus
• Valuable prior experience in issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality.

• Salary: according to Action Against Hunger salary scale.
