Physiotherapy Assistance for Prosthetic & Orthotic Services

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Under the line management of the Rehabilitation Project Manager and the functional management of the Rehabilitation Technical Officer, the PT Assistance is responsible for:
- Ensure quality of P&O services at in (camps, communities, medical/paramedical structures, and HI Rehabilitation Centre) Gaza Strip
- Providing quality rehabilitation services for people with disabilities/people with injuries (Amputees) encountered.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Support
- Provide patient with amputees’ care including evaluation and treatment under the supervision of PT using therapeutic exercise, therapeutic agents, and assistive technology.
- Assessing patient health (Physical, stump condition) through interviews and physical examination.
- Instruct patients on therapeutic exercise regimens, wellness and health maintenance.
- Provide the rehabilitation services seeking the qualitative approach of intervention.
- Provide pre and post prosthetic fitting gait training to amputees such as on balance and mobility, stretching & strengthening training.
- Train the patient and care taker on wound care, stump hygiene, bandaging and positioning of the stump.
- Modify and implement of each patient’ physical therapy treatment plan as directed by PT.
- Provide continuous therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs.
- Assist in developing technical tools, training materials, leaflets, protocols, and other relevant documents (family information/education tools).
- Educate the client & caregiver on the use, care, and maintenance of P&O devices.
- Proper use of technical tools, training materials, leaflets, and other relevant documents in collaboration with the corresponding HI team members.
- Work closely with Rehabilitation (P&O) and Psycho-social teams to promote a well-integrated and comprehensive quality service to support the teams and beneficiaries.
- Ensure the quality of accessing the referred beneficiaries and ensure the quality of P&O services delivered.
- Communication, Coordination, and reporting
- Participate in the production and dissemination of lessons learning exercises and/or good practice documents with the support of Rehabilitation TO and teams.
- Update periodically to the rehab team about his/her activity, in order to update the Health Activity Tracking.
- Provide input in all rehabilitation-P&O -related mission reporting needs to Rehabilitation TO and line manager.
- Work closely with other service providers, Hospital, PRC, NGOs to identify the need of P&O services.
- Contribute to identify, gather and contact other NGO or health facilities for further including in the services map.
- Report pertinent and correct information in files, respecting filling procedure and keeping files properly.
- Prepare and submit to monthly report to line manager.
- Contributes to the reputation of the organization's expertise in rehabilitation (national and international conferences).
- Provide daily and weekly activities and provide daily activity report (including data) to line manager.
- Quality of care and technical skills and knowledge
- Identify and prioritise his/her own training needs.
- Willing to learn about new technology.
- Participate to training sessions (theoretical, practical, study cases…).
- Participate to technical meeting with PT and P&O team once in a week.
- Hygiene and security
- Follow basic hygiene rules.
- Observe at all times strict commitment to HI Security & Safety regulations as per procedures in place at mission level.
- Support in internal information dissemination to relevant focal people at mission level aiming at reinforcing security and safety of HI staff and assets.
- Ethics
- Maintain a professional conduct at all times.
- Respect each team member’s positions, work, and specialty.
- Report any incident or act that causes any harm to the beneficiary or to others.
- Among others, he/she respects patient’s privacy and confidentiality
(he/she only shares medical information with medical staff/people directly involved in patient’s care)
- Any other duty at the service of the project and the organisation, as requested by project and guided by Rehabilitation Project Manager.

Professional skills
- Diploma in Physiotherapist
- Minimum 4-5 years experience in disability/ rehabilitation field, emergency or/ and development context especially working with amputees.
- Ability to work with partners, civil society organizations, or public authorities
- Skills in users centered approach and center-based rehabilitation
- Knowledge of referral mechanisms
- Use of MS Word, Excel, PPT, outlook and other relevant software
- Ability to respect deadlines and work under pressure
- Very positive personality, with strong orientation toward solutions
- Adaptability, flexibility
- Autonomy in work
Cross-cutting skills
- Experience with HI and/or knowledge of its fields of action and approaches is considered an asset
- Experience in working with vulnerable groups
- Fluent in English
