Policy Officer Private Sector Development and Water
The Person
The Netherlands Representative Office in Ramallah (NRO) is looking for a dynamic person with extensive knowledge of and experience in the private sector and the water sector in the Palestinian Territories, as well as working experience in an international environment. He/she is a native Arabic speaker with excellent spoken and written English, who has good communication, networking and interpersonal skills, is proactive and results-oriented, as well as flexible and stress resilient. He/she is capable of representing and working on behalf of a third country (the Netherlands). The preferred candidate is experienced in project management and the use of Microsoft Office applications.
The Tasks
Private Sector Development (35%):
-To support, organise and initiate follow-up activities related to the Dutch-Palestinian Bilateral Forum, in particular related to the agrifood, water, energy and ICT sectors;
-To act as the local focal point for all Dutch private sector instruments in the Palestinian Territories;
-To handle all trade and investment related information and support requests submitted to the NRO;
-To build up and maintain an extensive network of relevant contacts in the Palestinian private and the public sector;
-To maintain contacts with relevant Dutch public and private sector agencies;
-To inform and advise the Head of Cooperation and the Sr. Policy Officer for Economic Affairs on relevant developments in the private sector.
Water (35%):
-To co-manage the water project portfolio in coordination with Sr. Policy Officer Water, Humanitarian Affairs and Human Rights;
-To build up and maintain an extensive network of relevant contacts in the Palestinian water sector (public, private and academia);
-To maintain contacts with relevant Dutch public and private sector agencies;
-To inform and advise the Head of Cooperation and the Sr. Policy Officer for Water, Humanitarian Affairs and Human Rights on relevant developments in the Water sector.
Other (30%):
-To perform administrative tasks related to NROs development portfolio;
-To replace colleagues in the policy section during their absence;
-To answer queries from members of the public and provide information about the Netherlands as requested;
-To contribute to the organisation of visits of Dutch delegations;
-To assist in office events and office affairs.
Education
Academic background, preferably MA in economics, business administration or engineering.
Working environment
The NRO is a medium sized diplomatic mission with 8 expat staff and 7 local staff. We believe in team work, open communication and a flexible approach.
Conditions
This is a position for one year with the possibility of extension to two years on the basis of a 37.5 hours working week from Monday to Friday. Out of office hours work will be required at times and comes with the job. Salary will be based on experience and background. The preferred starting date is mid May.
