Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Consulate General in Jerusalem is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of a Post Security Manager.
Objective:
The job holder will be responsible to the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) for the physical and protective security of the safety and security of staff and families at the British Consulate General and properties on the Estate. The role will involve the management of an established and capable team. The job holder must have excellent communication and the ability to give clear, concise advice on a range of security topics, commensurate with their position, as per policy and procedure. This role is open to both male and female candidates.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Management of a security team who are responsible for security checks, including physical searches of personnel and vehicles. Monitoring of CCTV, Operating UHF radio network, patrolling on foot and by vehicle, as directed by Shift Supervisors and security regulations.
- Management of learning and development of the security team.
- Management of security team shift roster.
- Conduct regular reviews of security policy and recommend amendments or updates to the ROSM.
- Management of security equipment to include inventory checks, planned maintenance and testing schedules and correct use or deployment of the equipment.
- Local staff security clearances.
- Residential property security surveys.
- Management of security exercises, drills and alarm tests.
- Regular written and oral communication to staff on security issues.
- Assisting on visits and events, including occasional field deployments.
- Liaison with local security managers at other diplomatic missions in Jerusalem/Ramallah and the British Embassy Tel Aviv.
- Dealing with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Reacting to incidents and issues in a calm, disciplined manner as part of a team, including exercises and learning and development to understand policy and procedures.
- Provides relevant and commensurate security advice to staff.
- Other relevant tasks as detailed by the ROSM.

Essential qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Excellent communicator in spoken and written English.
- Excellent event planning and management skills.
- Previous experience in a police, military or commercial or diplomatic security background (min 3 years) with checkable references.
- Can work as an individual and within a team.
- Knowledge of security policy and procedures.
- Local geographical knowledge within Jerusalem and the West Bank.
- Driving Licence Cat B
- Computer literate especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Desirable qualifications and experience
Desirable:
- Written and Spoken Arabic and Hebrew is desirable but not essential.
- Driving Licence Cat A and C

Eligibility:
- The successful candidate should hold or must be able to secure a local work permit.
- Palestinian candidates must hold a Jerusalem ID Card.
- The candidate must pass a written and oral English test to the required standard or have IELTS to at least Level 6 already completed with a valid results score sheet.
Working Hours:
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours gross per week. The Consulate-General is committed to ensuring that you are able to maintain a suitable work-life balance. The actual working hours are at the discretion of the HM Consul General and depend upon the needs of the Consulate-General. They are at present:
Monday to Thursday: 08.00 – 16.00 hours
Friday: 08.00 – 14.00 hours
Saturday and Sunday: Holiday
Some flexibility in working hours will be permitted subject to negotiation and agreement. We envisage the job being a full-time position but would be willing to discuss part-time options.
