Report to:Program Coordinator (PC) based in Jerusalem
Background:
War Child Holland (WCH) is an independent and impartial international non-governmental child right’s organization investing in a peaceful future for children and young people affected by armed conflict. We strive to empower children and young people, while enabling adults to bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of conflict affected children and young people. `WCH has been working in the oPt since 2004, and has an office in Jerusalem and in Gaza.
Purpose
The Project Officer is responsible for the implementation of the project activities in Gaza. This is a 3,5 year funded psychosocial project, targeting children and young people in Gaza (80%) and West Bank (20%). This involves planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting on all project activities in Gaza in order to achieve the set goals and objectives as effectively and efficiently as possible. This role also includes to be the focal point in Gaza for this project. This project will be jointly implemented with our partner Right to Play.
Objective
-Responsible for the appropriate planning, implementation and monitoring of activities in Gaza within the decided framework /project plan.
-Ensure submission of timely internal reports to the PC.
-Creates and maintains good working relationship with stakeholders (Government, partners, CBOs etc.) in Gaza.
-Focal point in Gaza for any external visitors or external communication requests related to this project.
Responsibilities
1-Responsible for the appropriate planning, implementation of the projects in Gaza within the project work plan
-Participate in developing annual activity plans.
-Make monthly and quarterly work plans.
-Carry out collection of data and support PC in needs assessment, including baseline.
-Collect information for documentation and lessons learned and share with PC and other staff related to this project.
-Respond to requests from PC related to communication activities
-Make logistical arrangements in line with requirements project, including organizing internal and external visits as well as communication activities.
-Support WCH with translation and interpretation for activities and material related to this project.
-Monitor project activities in Gaza are implemented in line with WCH’s child safety policy.
2-Ensures submission of timely internal reports to the PC
-Submit activity reports based on agreed templates and frequency .
-Provide data in order to compile narrative reports as per requirements.
-Participate in project meetings as per requirements, mainly in Gaza and occasionally in Jerusalem (WCH will apply for coordination).
3-Build and maintain good working relationship with stakeholders.
-Liaise with government institutions, relevant stakeholders, communities and (I)NGOs in Gaza where necessary, including ensuring they have clear understanding of WCH and this project in particular.
-As per request from PC, attend coordination meetings in Gaza
-Be focal point in Gaza for any external visits, including from staff in Jerusalem, HQ and donor, related to this project.
Profile required
-At least BA university degree or degree from higher education in relevant field, such as social work, social science, development studies or any other related field.
-At least 3 years’ experience for an (I)NGO to implement a full project cycle, preferably for projects targeting children and young people in the field of child rights, (creative) psychosocial support and/or child protection.
-Fluent in written and spoken Arabic, and strong knowledge of written and spoken English.
-Strong social and communication skills both verbal and written, and preferably experience in carrying out project related communication activities (e.g. write stories, make photos).
-Ability to establish effective and working relations with relevant stakeholders, (local) partners and communities
-Strong planning, implementation and organizational skills, and is able to analyze and come up with suitable and sustainable community driven solutions
-Experience in working with or interacting with children and young people, and a proven track record of upholding child safety practices.
-Based in Gaza
-In possession of driving license.
