The East Jerusalem YMCA (EJ-YMCA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 1949 as a vibrant and integral part of the Palestinian social movement. The EJ-YMCA is committed to a unique vision of community based on the universal values of human dignity, peace, and justice.
The East Jerusalem YMCA Women's Training Program and DanChurchAid are jointly implementing a project titled A Multi Sectoral WATSAN/PROTECTION/Advocacy Action in Area C in the West Bank benefitting the most vulnerable rights holders and targeting duty bearers Phase II " funded by ECHO. The Project objective is to address the humanitarian needs of the most vulnerable segments of the population hit by drought in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The project is recruiting a Protection Adviser to further develop and implement protection-driven YMCA programming and responses in YMCA Projects.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
-Assess YMCA staff and institutional protection knowledge and identify gaps to be addressed;
-Design a training programme for YMCA staff, partners and volunteers, conduct most trainings and ensure exposure to other protection actors work and strategies;
-Identify protection tools and other supportive measures to strengthen YMCAs humanitarian and resilience programming;
-Design a protection toolbox for staff and provide on-the-job advice and capacity-building to YMCA staff,
-Supervise activities related to legal and gender protection.
-Ensure that all interventions are in compliance with IHL Protection Framework and Human Rights Law.
-Identify opportunities for design and development of further protection projects.
-Develop and implement plans for integrated vulnerability and needs assessments that includes protection concerns and support YMCA efforts towards strengthening the protection analysis in reporting.
-Provide protection input on proposals to ensure that protection is mainstreamed across the YMCA/DCA programs.
-Represent YMCA in the oPt Protection Cluster.
Key Qualifications:
-Advanced university degree in Law, Human Rights or related field.
-Minimum of 3 years, and preferably minimum of 5 years experience in implementing protection programs.
-Demonstrated experience using international human rights standards in protection.
-Excellent knowledge about the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights situation in the oPt.
-Strong leadership and capacity building skills..
-Have excellent communication skills in (oral and written) English.
-Have a strong personality, and have the ability to work under pressure.
-Have good relations with the local communities.
