Action Against Hunger (AAH) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational and non-profit making organization working in the Palestinian Territory since 2002.

Action Against Hunger is recruiting on a full time basis in  its Hebron office a

Protection Officer

For a period of 12 months.

General Objective:

The overall responsibility is to ensure the systematic initiation and follow-up of protection activities, to coordinate with consortium partners and other stakeholders and to contribute to advocacy campaigns to document IHL violations. Establishing an efficient networking with the local communities under protection threats to be timely warned about every protection incident occurring in the areas of intervention.

Key Activities:

 Objective 1. Project identification and design:

  • Prepare community protection work plan for each project and Participate in the implementation of protection activities.  
  • Prepare a clear master plan for the steps and activities related to the protection.
  • Facilitate introductory meetings to be held with the communities, village councils, local committees, cooperatives, and project personnel.
  • Provide technical assistance to beneficiaries in legal matters.
  • Define vulnerability characteristics, identify the needs of the most vulnerable populations, and propose responses to these needs.
  • Participate in data collection for monitoring of results and objectives indicators.
  • Prepare visibility plans and reports in coordination with Communication and Advocacy officer.
  • Draft fact sheets and other informational materials for advocacy purposes requested by the direct supervisor.

Objective 2. Project implementation and set up.

  • Responsible for writing protection community profiles.
  • Participate in implementation of Community Protection Approach- CPA process including (public meeting, MULTI Sectorial Questionnaire, Focus groups, individual interviews, problem analysis, community training, preparation of maps).
  • Participate in the design and implementation of project related assessments, protection indictor surveys or any other project identification studies.
  • Promote the application of Action Against Hunger feedback mechanisms during the implementation of the project.
  • Follow up of settlers’ violence and demolition response follow up with consortium partners in coordination with the Consortium Head of Project.
  • Prepare incident reports and share with relevant partners.
  • Follow up the cases Legal status and legal advice.
  • Prepare advocacy activities such as Fact sheets, coordinate and attend diplomatic visits, follow up alerts etc.
  • Coordinate with communication and advocacy officer for any advocacy related tasks.
  • Update incidents tracker on regular basis. And provide alert in case of any frequent incidents.

Objective 3. External Relations

  • Ability to monitor work implemented in coordination with Head of Project.
  • Assist the field staff team in data collection and surveys and other field tasks if necessary.
  • Travelling within West Bank base and field sites if required
  • Translation work when needed.
  • Those duties are inherited to the position and requested according to the mission’s needs and context.
  • Communication with WBPC partners to follow up incidents and related CPA duties.
  • Maintain and cultivate relations at technical level with local authorities, counterparts, beneficiaries and other external actors related to Action Against Hunger activities.
  • Attend local meetings or project related community meetings.

Objective 4. Other Duties.

  • Translation when needed.
  • Driving within West Bank base and field sites
  • Write minutes with conclusions, recommendations and action points of meetings and workshops.
  • Participate in preparation of mid and final report to donor as requested by HoP.

متطلبات الوظيفة
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, international relations, human rights, Political Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience in administrative support roles, preferably in a     project or NGO setting.
  • Experience in the collection, analysis and interpretation of protection related information.
  • Ability to work with various partners, in a spirit of openness, and with adaptable communications strategies.
  • Very good knowledge of West Bank Area C and ability of movement in the field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in related fields with a focus in the area of protection/promotion of Human rights and/or international humanitarian law.
  • Knowledge in humanitarian or emergency programming and previous work experience with international NGOs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian or emergency and development programming.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent in reading, writing and speaking both Arabic and English -Hebrew is a plus.
  • Ability to travel in West Bank and stay overnight if needed.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
