Founded in 1993, Médecins du Monde Switzerland is a medical association of international solidarity that is part of the Médecins du Monde network. We provide sustainable access to health care for people in vulnerable situations in Switzerland and around the world.

MdM Switzerland, has been working in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) since 1994 in the sector of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), implementing emergency and development interventions, focusing on victim of occupation-related violence, children and detention, suicide prevention and management, strengthen of access to mental health cares at national and community level, and advocacy initiative.

OBJECTIVES

Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator and technical supervision of the Programme Coordinator,

the Protection Officer performs protection activities to ensure the quality of the planning, implementation and follow up of all technical aspects of the sector activities being implemented by MdM-CH. S/he develops and maintains good relations with the persons of concern, relevant stakeholders and other humanitarian actors, to support adequate implementation and coordination of MdM-CH’s sector activities

Main objective:

  • Along with the team, perform daily protection activities as advocacy, referral, MRM, case management, Victim assistance and other related activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to protection team, ensuring quality in the implementation of activities and services as well as the adherence to protection standards

Specific objectives:

  • Participate in CP and GBV AoR meetings and provide training for them when required.
  • Provide PSS sessions for beneficiaries when assigned in collaboration with MHPSS Officer.
  • Support MdM-CH psychologists and social workers in the identification and support of people in need
  • Liaison and attend the monthly review meetings with local partners.
  • Work with the Project Officer and Field Coordinator to provide appropriate capacity building to MdM-CH partners, community volunteers, community-based Child Protection Committee members, and the community social workers.
  • Provide technical support and supervision to technical and field staff and partners to ensure quality assurance, including setting standards of operation and daily and weekly work plans for all activities relating to child protection; ensure mainstreaming of GBV issues across child protection activities.
  • Liaising with local government authorities, NGOs, CBOS, community leaders in strengthening - protection services networks to enhance protection in the governorate.
  • Ensure efficient and effective program implementation while following the budget and work plan.
  • Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals and budgets for donors.
  • Establish new and strengthen existing referral and response networks with relevant partners able to provide and follow up medical, psychosocial, legal, and livelihood child protection assistance including GBV.
  • Conduct training and capacity building of local partners and volunteers for effective - protection responses, including Child Protection, GBV. MHPSS and Mine Action.
  • Establish / strengthen protection monitoring in the governorate identifying children in need for assistance and referral.
  • Carry out regular community participatory - protection risk mapping in the governorate.
  • Monitor grave violations against women and children identifying women and children affected in these violations for assistance.
  • Closely collaborate with Project Officers in order to ensure timely implementation of activities
  • Explore and propose innovative approaches for developing and implementing new interventions.
  • Any other duties as required by supervisor.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Degree in social work, sociology, community development, law or related fields.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in protection, community-based approaches and case management.
  • Proven experience in NGOs, preferably in iNGOs
  • Demonstrating practical experience in humanitarian principles and protection principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure in an unstable and changing environment.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Driver license is an asset.
  • Good skills in writing and designing proposals.
  • Good communication skills.
  • English proficiency.
  • Leadership, diplomatic and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in team.
  • Understand and analyse a health context, health problems and data
  • Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, capacity to take initiatives.
  • Autonomy to work independently and without constant supervision.
  • Ability to manage priorities effectively.
  • Good skills in organization, coordination and transfer of knowledge.
  • Ability to work with different groups of beneficiaries (female, male, children, adolescents, adults and elderly).
  • Willingness to improve own skills and capacities by participating in capacity building activities.
  • Ability to live and work in a difficult security context and willingness to accept security protocols.
  • Confidentiality: observe absolute discretion on the documents, interviews, discussions and/or other info related to the intervention of MdM Switzerland in the country.

  • Contract Duration: 6 months can be renewable.
