PSS Social Worker  - Gaza Office

The PSS Social Worker is responsible for providing essential psychosocial support to individuals facing a spectrum of challenges, including trauma, distress, or violence. The officer’s responsibilities are multifaceted, beginning with the assessment of clients' psychosocial needs. This involves a thorough examination of the individual's emotional and mental well-being to identify areas requiring attention and support.

Moreover, the officer is responsible for developing customized support plans tailored to each client's unique circumstances. These plans are carefully crafted to address specific challenges and goals, incorporating input from the client to ensure relevance and effectiveness. The implementation of interventions is a key aspect of the role, as the social worker utilizes evidence-based techniques and strategies to promote mental and emotional wellness.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Job Responsibility #1: Group psychosocial activities and life skills within the shelters

• Conduct assessments to identify individuals' emotional and mental health requirements
• Develop personalized support strategies based on assessment outcomes and individual preferences.
• Administer individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-backed therapeutic methods.
• Develop mechanisms to provide PSS to target groups to cope with the impact of the crises.
• Provide psychosocial support (PSS) services to target groups (Children, Persons with Disabilities, Women, Elderly, Youth)
• Implement structured and sustained recreational, creative and sport activities with a psychosocial support aim. Combine quality and technical implementation with a child-friendly approach.
• Communicating instructions and commands using clear, simple language;
• Demonstrating an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence;
• Encouraging participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge and techniques;
• Inspiring confidence and self-belief;
• Acting as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the youth;
• Working to a high legal and ethical standard at all times, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
• Regularly arrange assessment and ask the feedback

Job Responsibility #2: Coordination with other teams and services

• Coordinate with community resources such as healthcare providers and NGOs to facilitate referrals and secure additional support.
• Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and professional development endeavors to enhance clinical skills.
• Conduct and regularly update service mapping and develop a referral pathway, in coordination and as requested by line supervisor
• Disseminate information regarding available resources and services provided in the area of intervention and other areas
• Work in coordination with other teams to identify protection concerns and women and girls in need of case management services

Job Responsibility #3: Resource management, data management, and reporting

• Use program resources effectively and with care
• Ensure proper record keeping of cases, ensuring confidentiality, and ensure that data collected is received and recorded by the data management staff in a timely and accurate manner.
• Identify logistic and admin support needs related to the case management activities and communicates these to the relevant log/admin support person, with the knowledge of his/her supervisor.
• Ensure appropriate management and storage of program material, equipment, information.

Job Responsibility #4: Problem-solving and teamwork

• Develop common priority actions leading to solutions to the identified problems
• Identify the problems associated with the delivery of the project and inform the protection and GiE specialist, HR, logistics, beneficiaries in accordance with the protection and GiE specialist’s orientations
• Attend and take part in the meetings necessary for passing on information for the smooth running of activities
• Help the protection specialist in setting up the activities schedule every week
• Attending relevant trainings on Protection, Child Protection, Case Management and others.

Job Profile Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (social work, psychology, education, social sciences, etc.).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related fields.
• Superior organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and to take initiative, with a result-oriented approach and positive attitude.
• The ability to communicate effectively with children and adults, local authorities and other partners, and express oneself in a clear and concise way.
• Proficient capacity building skills and previous capacity building experience.
• Good knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and MS.
• Ability to work in unstable, uncertain or potentially dangerous environments, independently and in a team.
• Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills.
• Experience working in humanitarian settings.
