Shelter Construction Coordinator (Engineer)
Short term contract
Gaza strip
 
JOB PURPOSE
The main objective for the Shelter Coordinator is to lead the start-up (phase 1) of an NRC shelter construction project in the Gaza strip.
 
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
-Ensure that the project start up is in accordance with the approved proposal, donor requirements, NRC policies, international standards and local customs
-Lead beneficiary selection, specifically for vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities
-Adopt community and beneficiary participation and self-help construction principles
-Under the guidance of the Area Manager tender and manage consultancy contracts for building design
-Liaise with international, governmental and non-governmental organizations and collaborate where appropriate
-Under the guidance of the Area Manager assist to initiate the coordination of material into Gaza from Israel
-Line manage one Community Liaison Officer
-Produce regular, timely and accurate narrative reports to the Area Manager
 
Programme Development
 
-Support NRC’s position as Shelter Sector lead agency
-Contribute to the development of NRC’s Plan of Action
-Continuously seek innovative ways to improve/develop the work of NRC’s Shelter programme and support the implementation of necessary programme changes
 
 
 
PROFILE OF PERSON

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
-Minimum 10 years experience in implementing housing construction projects, ideally in the humanitarian sector
 
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
-Fluency in the English language, both written and verbal
-Computer skills including use of Excel spreadsheets
-Knowledge of building standards
 
FORMAL EDUCATION
-Relevant higher level education in Engineering/ construction.
 
PERSONAL QUALITIES
-Goal oriented and visionary
-Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
-Flexible and creative
 
DESIRED SKILLS
-Working with people with disabilities
-International agency work experience
 
Start date:1st September 2011
Contract period:6 months
Salary/benefits:According to NRC’s general directions pay commessurate with experience and  benefits provided.
