SOS Children’s Villages takes action for children as an independent non-governmental social development organization. We build families for children in need, we help them shape the development of their communities, we respect varying religions and cultures, and we work in countries and communities where our mission can contribute to development.
A three-year project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, abbreviated BMZ. It is a cabinet-level ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany, founded in 1961, the Ministry works to encourage economic development within Germany and in other countries through international cooperation and partnerships. It cooperates with international organizations involved in development including the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and the United Nations.
Position summary and main aims:
The goal of this position is ensuring quality intervention for children within a three-year BMZ-funded project that focus on offering specialized services, group and individual development of families severely affected by the areas of child protection, violence prevention and gender equality. This includes identification, selection and needs assessment of beneficiaries, preparation and follow-up of family development plans, individual, group counseling and coaching for beneficiaries, support to beneficiaries in building self-help structures, peer support and organization of cultural events. The social worker reports directly to the Project coordinator and works in close coordination with the project team and Family Strengthening Programme.

Key Performance areas and Responsibilities:
- Support CBO’s in implementing a case management (identification of families, assessment, support them in developing family development plans, with the strong participation of caregivers, children and the multidisciplinary team)
- Guide and support CBO’s of how to ensure caregivers and children participation and how they can engaged with them progressively in the project activities
- Support CBO’s in create supportive groups with local partners for target benefeciaries in the community or in partner CBO’s
- Conduct awareness session meetings and capacity buildings for benefeciaries and CBO partners
- Support CBO’s in developing individual and group intervention plans with children and families
- Support CBO’s to organize group activities for children and families in community centers.
- Support CBO’s to coordinate field visits to intervene with the families according to the intervention plan
- Support CBO’s to refer cases based on the national referral system.
- Provide regular Reports on project implementation and progress of activities
Child Safeguarding (CS)
- Responsible within own area of work to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
- Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the IOR CS focal person and/or to the respective line manager

Must Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Counselling/Sociology/Mental Health.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience working directly with vulnerable caregivers and children
- Experience in conducting session meetings and capacity buildings
- Work experience in a case management system.
- Ability to combine field and office work;
Competencies – knowledge, skills, abilities
- Good knowledge of social welfare policies, services, laws at national level and set up of national child protection and social system
- Good knowledge of child development, family functioning, human behaviour and social environment
- Knowledge on social work ethics, theories and methods in work with children and families
- Knowledge on child protection and children rights
- Knowledge on social issues facing children and families, such as health (including HIV/AIDS), poverty, lack of access to education, child abuse and neglect, gender violence, discrimination, substance abuse etc.
- Knowledge on how traditions, culture, beliefs and customs influence human functioning and development at all levels
- Understanding of cultural diversity, characteristics of special target groups, implications for assessment and intervention
- Understanding of services, including case management, crisis intervention, parenting skills training, family counselling, conflict resolution and individual and group counselling
- Good time management, organisational and administrative skills
- Team work and flexible.
Preferred Additional Criteria:
- Experience in the development or delivery of economic support services for women and families
