The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the positions of Clerk/Secretary and Public Relations and Communication Officer, to be based at the Palestinian Women’s Research and Documentation Center in Ramallah.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Director and the general supervision of the Financial Manager, the Clerk/ Secretary shall be responsible for the following:
• Make and answer telephone calls, send faxes, photocopying documents
• Establish and maintain files
• Greet and assist visitors to the PWRDC-UNESCO
• Manage the Director’s office and agenda and updating the agenda of the PWRDC team
• Perform any other duties as may be required by the supervisor and/or Director
Qualifications
• Excellent computer (excel and power point) and phone skills
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Ability to take direction, work independently, as well as coordinate work with others
• Ability to communicate in Arabic and English (reading, writing and speaking)
• Secretarial Diploma
• At least 2 years experience working in a similar capacity
Duties and Responsibilities
The Public Relations & Communications Officer shall support the PWDRC’s Director in her role as the key spokesperson for the organization, striving to better promote PWRDC and its vision at the national, regional and international level.
Influencing Media
To partner with and influence local media to better report on women’s and gender issues so that women’s lives are better documented and their image more accurate.
• Prepare briefs ahead of meetings and events
• Act as point of contact in the Director’s absence
• Liaise with the media to arrange interviews and press conferences
• Perform any additional tasks identified by the Director in relation to public relations (e.g. providing
speeches, articles, etc.)
• Coordination, publication and dissemination of PWRDC’s Publications
• Production and distribution of online monthly newsletter
• Development and maintenance of the PWRDC website
Networking
To collaborate with local, regional and international organizations working on behalf of women’s rights and gender
equality in order to facilitate knowledge sharing and advocacy.
• Establishment and maintenance of a PR archive/knowledge bank
• Contribute to organizational development activities as requested by the Director and/or the ProgramManager
• Communicate with other staff members in order to obtain their input for external communication materials and publications, and to facilitate the advertisement of PWRDC’s trainings or research needs, the publication of training materials, research materials, and reports, as well as another needs
• Communicate directly with the Financial Manager regarding any purchases or acquisitions, including the printing of materials
• Communicate directly with the Director for supervision and for any issues or topics not immediately addressed above.
Qualifications
• Excellent computer, research and writing skills
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Ability to think strategically and to plan ahead
• Ability to take direction, work independently and coordinate work with others
• Ability to network with individuals and institutions from various backgrounds
• Ability to multi-task and be detail-oriented
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in Arabic and English (reading, writing and speaking)
• University degree in Public Relations, Communications, Information Technology (Advanced degree preferred)
• At least 2-3 years relevant work experience
• Experience with graphic design software, website development and maintenance, and database management
• Familiarity with online resources and list-servers oriented towards women’s and/or gender issues
