UNRWA is the largest United Nations programme in the Middle East. It provides education, health care, relief assistance and social services to Palestine refugees. UNRWA is currently inviting applications from qualified men and women for the following opening in our West Bank Field Office in Jerusalem:
Advisory Commission Support Officer
1. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In accordance with established policy and procedures, the incumbent assists in preparation of annual work plan, provisional agenda and summary note in close coordination with the Bureau of Advisory Commission; coordinates preparation of relevant documentation and materials with the Bureau and relevant Departments and ensures these documents are properly translated; provides background documentation in advance of meetings; assists in making logistical arrangements for meetings and assists as requested in circulating in advance of sessions the names of participants and notifies AdCom members of the agenda, date and location of sessions; facilitates précis writing, prepares reports on the meetings; provides feedback on the documentation; provides necessary support to various sub-committees of Advisory Commission; circulates, on a case-by-case basis, other materials of interest to members and observers of the Advisory Commission; performs such other duties as may be required.
2. IMPACT OF INCUMBENT’S WORK
Importance of Decisions and Proposals Made by the Incumbent
Decisions of the post incumbent mainly concerns methods and approaches related to provision of effective support to the Advisory Commission and its Bureau. Proposals pertain to the preparation of annual work plan and drafting reports and précis associated with the activities discussed at the AdCom.
3. INDEPENDENCE OF WORK
(A) Application of Guidelines
The work is performed within the framework of general Agency policies and directives and instructions from the supervisor. However, specific guidelines may not always be relevant and the incumbent will occasionally be required to revert to the direct supervisor in dealing with unusual situations.
(B) SUPERVISORY CONTROL OVER WORK OF INCUMBENT
Routine work in performed under the general supervision of the supervisor. Non-routine matters are closely supervised and monitored by the supervisor.
4. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(A) Academic and professional qualifications
University degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or other related discipline.
(B) Experience
At least three years experience in related administrative work in a high level office in an international organization, governmental office or an embassy.
(C) Language
Good command of spoken and written English
(C) Competencies
Basic drafting skills in English and Arabic; precision in proof-reading; ability to research and summarize background materials; proficiency in standard Agency applications including MS Word, Excel, Access and Internet Explorer, etc. good work organizing skills; precision at work and careful with detail; interpersonal skills and team work; sound judgment on urgency, priority and confidentiality; speed in accomplishing tasks; ability to work under pressure; knowledge of protocol norms
5. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Arabic and/or other UN languages is an advantage; good knowledge of UNRWA Staff Rules and Regulations; prior experience with the UN.
6. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE :
UNRWA offers an attractive compensation package including gross monthly salary starting at JD 733.4 (net tax free) plus a Jerusalem Allowance of NIS 510; the Agency also contributes 15% of basic salary as the Agency’s share of Provident Fund. Other fringe benefits may include dependency allowance for married staff, annual leave, provident fund, health insurance. Initial contract is for 3 years; the first year is considered as probationary period, and the contract is extendable for further periods depending on the performance of the incumbent.
