UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Agency is committed to assisting Palestine refugees in maintaining a decent standard of living, acquiring appropriate knowledge and skills, enjoying the fullest possible extent of human rights, and leading a long and healthy life. UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Is responsible for the operation and administration of the health centre or health unit if in charge of such centre;
-In the Field of operation, the Medical Officer is responsible for a general clinic and/ or other special
services i.e. maternal and child health services, control of communicable and non-communicable
diseases, school health and hospital referrals (if in charge of the health centre);In the field of
administration, if in charge of a health centre, is responsible for the supervision of other staff assigned to the centre, as well as for the public health and administrative aspects of the health programme including reporting, personnel supervision, school health and environmental sanitation ( if assigned to a camp);
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-A medical degree from a recognized university including an internship of at least twelve months duration.
-Possession a valid governmental licence to practice medicine in the country of duty station.
-At least two years experience in medical practice.
-Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
-Good computer skills.
-Excellent communication skills.
-Ability to work under pressure.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $ 1,145.20; plus monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25.
-Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave
-Pension: Provident Fund contribution
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.

The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without readvertising the vacancy.
