UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Agency is committed to assisting Palestine refugees in maintaining a decent standard of living, acquiring appropriate knowledge and skills, enjoying the fullest possible extent of human rights, and leading a long and healthy life. UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate will:
- Contribute to assess the required equipment and furniture with its cost for GI projects during the fund raising process;
- Assist in preparing procurement Terms of References (TORs) and Purchase Requests (PRs) for goods including equipment, furniture and raw material;
- Ensure proper management of office assets, including maintenance of inventory, physical verification of assets and disposal of assets;
- Plan, track and follow up the maintenance process for sport/ IT equipment in partner Community Based Organisations (CBOs);
- Monitor the delivery process for equipment, materials and furniture to GI partnering CBOs in compliance with UNRWA system;
- Work with other relevant UNRWA departments to ensure timely delivery of goods;
- Prepare distribution plan for logistics items to the different GI partnering CBOs;
- Support the partnering CBOs in preparing any tenders required for GI projects;
- Backstop Programme Support Assistant (Administration/Finance) when needed, including preparing financial plans and reports;
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

- Bachelor degree in a related field.
- At least 3 years of working experience on financial and procurement process;
- Working experience in an INGO/UN setting , experience in women’s and/or gender issues is preferable;
- Excellent ability to handle financial and accounting matters;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Experience with SAP;
- Good knowledge of computer applications (particularly MS Office);

- Ability to prioritize work efficiently and productively; and
- Good knowledge of the workings of the civil society in the Gaza Strip.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- Basic Salary: The monthly basic salary is $935.6, currency adjustment factor (present rate 4.68%); monthly dependency allowance $18.65 and Group Medical Insurance GMI $12.00
- Contract Duration: six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
- Leave: 30 days annual leave.
- Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
- A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment. EQUIVALENCY

Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
