MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Providing support and legal advice to victim.
-Educate UNRWA staff members about the legal dimensions of violence and human rights.
-Educate groups of women about gender perspective, by letting them know basic information about their rights.
-Coordinating with legal institutions existing in the local community.
-Receiving cases from community, through CBOs and NGOs.
-Helping women get affordable legal services from other legal institutions and a range of referrals for women to legal services offered by local institutions.
-Ensure follow up of the client thought the different legal proceeding taken by the victim.
-Provide legal assistance and advice as required by clients.
-Review cases for necessary action.
-Keep clear and orderly information in the Referral System Database.
-Maintain contact and communication with other parties involved in the referral mechanism.
-Ensure confidentially of the client; and
-Ensure follow-up of the client thought the different legal proceedings she decides to take.
-Carry out tasks on need basis.
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-Bachelor degree in Law;
-A minimum of two years experience preferably in a legal advisory role;
-Solid knowledge of Personal Status Law;
-Excellent communication and report-writing skills;
-Good understanding of domestic violence and gender issues;
-Experience of working with NGOs and CBOs; and
-Strong computer skills.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Monthly Fee: Monthly fee $729.80; plus transportation $50.
-Contract Duration: six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and
satisfactory service.
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered

An internal candidate with a temporary-indefinite or fixed-term appointment selected for this post will retain his/her current contractual status and entitlements in accordance with current letter of appointment and applicable Area Staff Rules. With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agency’s roster of pre-approved candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position.
The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without readvertising the vacancy.
