To Support “Youm Jadeed” Educational Program
Youm Jadeed (New Day) is a groundbreaking educational and psychosocial support initiative designed for children aged 7-11 in Palestine. Funded by Education Above All, this innovative project leverages radio, digital platforms, and social media to channel psychosocial messaging and educational information and therefore contributes to addressing the gap caused by the ongoing war. Over seven months, the program’s first phase will produce and broadcast 90 education-based episodes, complemented by supplementary materials to be available online, to provide critical learning opportunities and psychosocial support to children and their caregivers.
Scope of Work
The selected illustrator will be responsible for:
- Developing original characters’ designs – 7 characters (including expressions, poses, and outfits) based on provided descriptions and project themes.
- Creating illustrations for storytelling materials, such as storybooks, activity sheets, and digital assets.
- Ensuring cultural accuracy and representation in character design, backgrounds, and settings.
- Delivering high-resolution digital illustrations suitable for printing and online use.
- Coordinating with the Youm Jadeed team to align the artwork with the storytelling needs and the project vision.
- Providing graphic design services as needed, including layout design, typography, and formatting for publications and promotional materials.
Qualifications
We are seeking an illustrator with Palestine specific expertise in the following areas:
- Proven experience in children’s illustration and character design.
- A strong portfolio showcasing culturally relevant and engaging illustrations.
- A great background of Palestinian culture, history, and storytelling traditions (preferred).
- Proficiency in digital illustration tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate.
- Experience working with NGOs, educational initiatives, or publishing projects (a plus).
- Proficiency in Graphic Design tools, if needed.
Deliverables
The expected outputs of this contract include:
- Character Design Sheets – Full-body illustrations of main characters with different poses and expressions. These characters should be illustrated based on character descriptions provided by Youm Jadeed
- Scene Illustrations – Key story moments or settings that bring the narratives to life.
- Additional Graphic Elements – Icons, patterns, or smaller visuals for use in materials.
- Final Artwork Files – High-resolution versions and open source in suitable formats (e.g., PSD, PNG,).
- Illustration Guidelines – A brief guide on style, colors, and character features for consistency in future materials.
Duration and Engagement
The illustrator is expected to run for the duration of the pilot phase of the project (till End of March), with a flexible engagement structure based on project needs and deliverables.

Interested illustrators are invited to submit:
- A portfolio of samples of relevant work.
- A brief proposal outlining their approach, timeline, and fee expectations.
- A CV or bio highlighting relevant experience.
Terms and Conditions:
- Evaluation will be based on experience, expertise, and pricing.
- The organization is not obligated to accept the lowest price.
- Prices should be quoted in USD.
Intellectual Property Rights
All commissioned illustrations will be the property of Youm Jadeed. The illustrator may showcase the work in their portfolio but cannot use it for resale or reproduction without prior permission.
