Background and Context

The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development (PWWSD) is a non-governmental women’s developmental and human rights organization established in 1981. PWWSD aims to contribute to the feminist struggle within national social and developmental dimensions, advocating for a free and democratic Palestinian society based on gender equality, respect for human rights, and social justice. PWWSD promotes women's empowerment and participation in national development and the struggle against occupation.

Alongside the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the West Bank—particularly the Northern Governorates—has witnessed significant escalation in tension and violence since 7 October 2023. This includes increased military operations, settler violence, and movement restrictions. These developments have caused heightened fear and trauma, particularly for women and children who were already vulnerable.

Adolescent girls and boys face unique challenges due to their transitional age. Girls, in particular, are subject to patriarchal norms, leaving them with unclear identities and imposing adult expectations. Awareness of their needs is often absent in families, particularly in marginalized areas.

The project aims to ensure that conflict-affected Palestinian women, adolescent girls, and adolescent boys are protected and have access to high-quality, gender-sensitive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Child Protection (CP) services. These services, which include integrated Gender-Based Violence (GBV) risk mitigation, are designed to meet their needs, strengthen their resilience, and contribute to the creation of a more gender-equitable society

Within this project PWWSD seeks to address these challenges by engaging children and adolescents in designing awareness-raising materials that resonate with their peers. These materials will promote MHPSS, CP, and GBV awareness through a child-led and adolescent-friendly approach.
