Donor Engagement Consultant

War Child is an independent and impartial international non-governmental child rights organization investing in a peaceful future for children and young people affected by armed conflict. With a focus on child protection, mental health and psychosocial support, we strive to empower children and young people, while enabling adults to bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of conflict affected children and young people. War Child operates in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

War Child intends to better understand the changing donor landscape, identify the donors who share mutual interest in geography and programming, and develop a donor engagement approach, which build into the War Child strategy. War Child is also looking to diversity its funding portfolio to include regional foundations, and potentials for private-public partnerships.

General objective of the role

War Child is therefore seeking for a consultant or consultancy group to develop and execute donor engagement plans for non-traditional donors who align with War Child Middle East regional and country strategies and priorities. This will include proactively outreaching and engaging with donors, and supporting War Child staff in developing partnerships with donors.

Scope of Work:

The Consultant will:

Review War Child’s strategic documents including country strategies, annual plans, and theory of change
Review War Child’s donor mapping of non-traditional donors in the region, and update as needed
Identify and proactively outreach to key donors whose interests align with War Child country strategies and priorities
Develop a donor engagement plan and execute it
Support War Child staff in cultivating relationships with donors
Develop concept notes and fundraising materials tailored to individual donors/potential donors.

Deliverables:

Inputs/updates to War Child’s donor mapping matrix showing War Child’s strategic and programmatic priorities aligned with donor interest and potential for collaboration.
Develop a donor engagement plans for the identified key donors with information on:

Donor interest and influence in the country, region, or in a specific programming area at the moment and in the next 3 years
Engagement approach with the donor
What material / information should War Child prepare for visibility & to share with the donor
How, and when War Child can communicate to them about ongoing War Child programming and initiatives

Proactive donor engagement (knocking on doors, bringing concept notes/proposals to raise their interest)
Concept notes and proposals according to donor interest

War Child Support

War Child will:

Provide relevant background documents necessary for the assignment
Be responsible for administrative and financial arrangements related to the consultancy

The Consultant will:

Be responsible for the coordination of meetings and other activities under the Consultancy

Time Frame:

Expected to start December 2020. Number of days will be determined based on the proposed workplan.

Key Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in fundraising, resource mobilization, and donor engagement
Demonstrated experience in conducting donor scoping and mapping exercises
Experience in working with major donors, private foundations, bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors, UN agencies, trusts and other institutional donors
Demonstrated experience in developing resource mobilization and donor engagement strategies
Proven understanding of the donor environment, and specifically the donor environment related to the Middle East region
Proven understanding and knowledge of the funding environment for Child Protection, MHPSS, education sectors (required)

Skills:
