Market Sectors Assessment

Action Against Hunger (AAH) is an international humanitarian organization founded in 1979 with the aim of combating hunger. AAH has been working in the occupied Palestinian territory since 2002 - currently with operational offices in Jerusalem, Gaza City, and Hebron. In Gaza, AAH - implements programs in the sectors of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH), Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL responses. Through its interventions, AAH aims to protect lives, promote capacities of Palestinian communities, and transform system to influence decision making.

Promote Economic Opportunities, Psychosocial Support and Livelihoods Engagement (PEOPLE) is an 18-month project, funded by the European Union. The project action focus on economic and social recovery in the Gaza Strip by a consortium composed of Action Against Hunger (AAH), as lead-applicant, and three partners, namely the University College of Applied Sciences (UCAS), the Palestinian Agriculture Relief Committees (PARC) and Association for Woman and Child Protection (AISHA).The project focuses on agricultural production and related infrastructures; agri-food business support and establishment; employability programs for young graduates through business incubators and collaboration with the private sector. The intervention also addresses the mental and psychosocial needs of targeted populations affecting capacities to integrate and maintain economic activities (under the Mental health Psychosocial Support -MHPSS-component). Ultimately, this intervention supports individuals and community resilience.

Action Against Hunger – Palestinian Territory (Gaza Strip) intends to award an external consultant to conduct a market needs assessment, which identifies priority economic sectors among the most affected sectors “services, commerce and industry sectors” for both employment and self-employment (small businesses/startups) and to analyze and identify the main opportunities for job and income creation. The assessment shall also identify the challenges that are currently impeding the longer-term recovery of affected sectors in addition to an integrated gender analysis to highlight specific needs to be addressed through the psychological component.

*Eligible consultants must demonstrate expertise with appropriate qualifications in areas such as economics, market systems, entrepreneurship business development, MSMEs, non-traditional business development gender equality and social inclusion, administration, CBOs, or any relevant fields with an emphasis on economic development and/or empowerment, have at least 3 years of experience and a proven track record in needs assessment, economic market research or evaluations assessing employment program, market systems, entrepreneurship, business development, etc., have a valid career license and able to provide a VAT invoice.
