1 Background
Doctors of the World Spain is an independent organization dedicated to ensuring the right to health for all individuals, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations, those excluded from society, and victims of natural disasters, famine, disease, armed conflict, or political violence. We operate both in Spain and across 19 countries in the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Our team of volunteers and professionals is committed to advancing the fundamental right to health and ensuring a dignified life for all.
Since 2004, Doctors of the World Spain has been actively working in Palestine, supporting health systems, including mental health and psychosocial services in the occupied Palestinian territories (the West Bank and Gaza). Our efforts are centred on promoting a comprehensive health model that emphasizes health promotion, prevention, and community-based care.
2 Context
The Occupied West Bank faces significant public health challenges due to funding limitations, restricted movement of the population and security risks to health workers. In the face of this worsening landscape however, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs remain high with an estimated 73,000 pregnant women in the West Bank. The escalating violence, tension and resulting forced displacement escalates mental health needs, increases the risk of gender-based violence and jeopardises women’s access to SRH care.
