Overview on YWCA

The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) of Palestine is a right-based nongovernmental association initiated in 1893 by informal groups of Christian women and was formally established in Jerusalem in 1918. We envision a free and democratic civil society where women and youth are empowered to exercise and protect their political, economic, and social rights. YWCA Palestine is affiliated with the World YWCA, a global movement working for women, young women, and girls in over 100 countries. It holds a special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Background:

The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in partnership with Enable will implement a project titled “Mental Health Community-based Awareness Campaign”, to contribute to the protection of vulnerable boys and girls, young women and men, and their caregivers against stigma and taboo surrounding mental health and increase their access to quality mental health and psychosocial support services.

 The overall objective of the project is that young people in Palestine have increased access to quality mental health and psychosocial support services.

The project aims to:

Palestinian youth, especially young women, have increased awareness of the importance of mental health and help-seeking strategies within their communities.
 
Youths have actively engaged duty bearers and policymakers to improve MHPSS responses and national youth mental health policies.

 

More specifically, the project main activities that will take place during the two years of implementation include the following: 

Identification of a first cohort of young people through partner CBOs to receive intensive training (3-4) young people from each targeted area.
Develop and conduct three training days for the first cohort of young people in 1) the importance of mental health, including stigmatization attitudes and social exclusion and discrimination against youth with mental illness, and 2) help-seeking behaviors. This training will be
Develop and conduct three training days of the first cohort of young people in leadership using YWCA Rise Up! Model and focus on building community-based mental health awareness campaigns
Conduct youth-led community consultation sessions in each targeted location to identify major mental health-related issues with an emphasis on youth mental health, these issues will be addressed in the fact sheet, using the YWCA Feminist Consultation Methodology
Conduct knowledge transfer sessions by cohort one for a second cohort of young people on the importance of mental health by young people from cohort one
Develop a fact sheet that identifies major mental health-related issues, that will be updated to a position paper.
Conduction of round table discussions and forums to discuss the position paper with the key and relevant decision-makers

 

Scope of the assignment/ Key responsibilities of the expert:

The expert is expected to provide the following key services, the expected Level of Effort is 3 working days/ months over a period of 16 months.

The M&E expert is expected to play a central role in ensuring the successful implementation and impact assessment of the "Mental Health Community-based Awareness Campaign" project. The following key responsibilities are outlined:

Monitor and document the progress and lessons learned of activities using the program’s database, particularly contributing with activity notes.
Begin activity evaluation actions (workshops, focus groups, interviews, round tables, surveys, etc.) as agreed upon with the M&E team.
Submit monitoring and evaluation reports for activities or groups of activities.
Provide relevant information for M&E purposes onto the database, including quantitative and qualitative indictors in alignment with the approved project’s log frame
Regularly visit partners, beneficiaries and activities to evaluate the progress and impact of the activities.
Perform activity evaluations, identifying the results and lessons learned, as required.
Constantly share the lessons learned of the activities with the entire program team.
the expert is expected to travel to some of the targeted locations, and remote monitoring in coordination with the project team is acceptable.

Duration of work:

The duration of the assignment will be within 16 months starting from January 2024 – July 2025.

Qualifications:

A post-graduate degree in the relevant field, preferably in psychology or sociology;
At least five (5) years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, results-based management, experience in mental health-related projects is preferable.
Excellent writing and analytical skills in developing reports (in English) and M&E tools;
Knowledge and experience in designing M&E systems and conducting evaluations.
