Support PSS Activities for Children with (SAM & MAM), caregivers and staff, (In Partnership with Muslim Aid)
- Background
Ard Elinsan Benevolent Association (AEI), in partnership with Muslim Aid, is implementing a 30-day Psychosocial Support (PSS) intervention aimed at improving the emotional well-being and resilience of children under five years with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and their caregivers, in the Gaza Strip. This program is part of a broader life-saving health and nutrition project designed to address the urgent needs of vulnerable children and caregivers in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
AEI and Muslim Aid seek to engage a consultant to design, implement, and evaluate child-centered PSS activities, ensuring effective psychosocial recovery and emotional support for children and their caregivers as part of the health and nutrition program.
- Objective of the Consultancy
The objective of this consultancy is to provide technical expertise in:
- Designing and delivering child-centered PSS interventions for children under five years with SAM and MAM.
- Facilitating group and individual PSS sessions for children and caregivers.
- Developing training and support materials for caregivers and health staff.
- Monitoring and evaluating the psychosocial impact of the intervention.
- Documenting lessons learned and providing recommendations for future programming.
- Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Design and Development of PSS Activities:
- Design a comprehensive PSS plan that includes individual and group activities tailored to the needs of children with SAM and MAM.
- Ensure activities are culturally appropriate, child-friendly, and trauma-informed, focusing on emotional recovery, resilience, and coping skills.
- Develop necessary resources such as play materials, art supplies, and other tools for PSS sessions.
- Training of Caregivers and Health Staff:
- Develop training materials and facilitate training sessions for caregivers and AEI/Muslim Aid health staff on providing psychosocial support to children and managing the emotional aspects of malnutrition recovery.
- Provide guidelines for caregivers on integrating PSS into daily interactions with children at home.
- Implementation Support:
- Provide technical support during the delivery of group and individual PSS sessions.
- Ensure sessions are conducted as per the agreed plan, offering feedback to facilitators and staff for quality assurance.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Develop pre- and post-assessment tools to measure the psychosocial impact of the PSS activities.
- Monitor and document the implementation of PSS activities, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Provide periodic feedback to AEI, Muslim Aid, and other stakeholders on progress and any necessary adjustments.
- Reporting:
- Prepare a final report detailing the activities, results, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations for future interventions.
- Include an evaluation of the psychosocial outcomes of the program and actionable recommendations for scaling up or adapting interventions.
- Expected Deliverables
- PSS Activity Plan: A detailed plan including activity types, timelines, objectives, and expected outcomes.
- Training Materials: Training manuals, handouts, and resources for caregivers and staff.
- Assessment Tools: Pre- and post-assessment tools for evaluating the psychosocial impact on children and caregivers.
- Final Report: A comprehensive report covering the activities, outcomes, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations.
- Duration of the Consultancy
The consultancy will be for 30 days, with the following key milestones:
- Week 1: Develop PSS activity plan and training materials.
- Weeks 2–4: Implementation of PSS activities, caregiver training, and ongoing monitoring.
- Final Week: Report preparation and final evaluation.
- Qualifications and Experience
The ideal consultant should have:
- Advanced degree in psychology, social work, child development, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in designing and delivering psychosocial support programs, particularly for children with SAM and MAM or other vulnerable groups.
- Experience in facilitating group and individual PSS activities for children under five.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, positive parenting, and child protection principles.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating PSS interventions and psychosocial well-being.
- Experience working in emergency settings or humanitarian crises, preferably in Gaza or similar contexts.
- Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken).
- Experience in working with humanitarian organizations and collaborative programs is highly desirable.
- Reporting Line
The consultant will report to the Program Manager/Coordinator of AEI and will work closely with the team from Muslim Aid. Regular updates will be provided to the program coordination team, which includes AEI staff, Muslim Aid project leads, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Application Process

- Financial proposal outlining consultancy fees in EURO
- Samples of previous relevant work or references from similar assignments.
- Application Deadline

- Budget and Payment Terms
The consultancy fee will be determined based on the financial proposal submitted. Payment will be made according to the following schedule:
- 30% upon submission and approval of the PSS plan and training materials.
- 40% after the successful implementation of the PSS activities (training, facilitation, and monitoring).
- 30% upon submission of the final report and evaluation.
