Recreational Activities for Parents and their children

Terms of Reference 

Médecins du Monde Suisse (MdM CH) is looking for a Consulting Services to carry out 20 or more recreational activities (open day) in East Jerusalem (10 in The Old city of Jerusalem, Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah, and Attur), and in Hebron (10 days in AL-Fawwar Camp, H2 area, AL-Aroub Camp, At Tuwani, and Beit Ummar), as a part project “Reinforce the protection of the most affected and isolated communities by occupation-related violence, through MHPSS services at individual, family and community levelCBPF-OPT-23-S-INGO-26705. This project is funded by HF-OCHA, implemented by Médecins du Monde Suisse in partnership with Medicos de Mundo Spain.  

Introduction 

Médecins du Monde, an independent international non-governmental organization founded in 1980, provides humanitarian relief and development aid to those in greatest need. The organization operates within the principles of medical ethics and humanitarian assistance and is currently active in more than 65 countries around the world. Doctors of the World - Switzerland was established in 1993 and has been operating in Palestine since 1994. 

Project Summary 

This project aims to address short and long-term needs, emphasizing awareness, knowledge, and capacity building, counseling, and mental health treatment. It prioritizes a localized response, engaging local communities and organizations.  This shall be attained through the provision of a holistic package of services, based on a human rights approach. 

The project will seek to address the psychosocial impacts of conflict related violence, through enhancing the resilience and mental health of vulnerable communities, emphasizing protection from violence. The project addresses movement restrictions, isolation, and provides essential health services. Family and community support are crucial, especially amid rising family violence.  

Within this aim and this project approach, the current ToR is related to the implementation of Psychosocial community activities focusing on family wellness and on interactive recreational days targeting family groups. 

The objective is to create a safe space in which children and their parents will participate in an interactive recreational day targeting family groups, playing a significant role in the alleviation of psychological distress caused by the conflict. This open day will offer participants a safe environment where caregivers and children can alleviate their stress levels, have fun, positively interact with other adults and children in their communities, and share knowledge among themselves in a safe and promoting environment. 

Scope of Assignment 

In the frame of this project activity, Médecins du Monde Suisse is planning to conduct 20 open days for children and their parents in 2 area (locations are mentioned above) where children and parents will participate actively in this activity. Following the application received, more than one service provided could be selected, to achieve the result of 20 open days in total. 

Service provider shall consider the following aspects:  

  • Provide 2-3 hours (for each day) of stress release and group activities, focusing on circus, theater or sport activities for family members.   
  • Participants in each activity will be around 60-80 participants in each location. 
  • Service provider shall address in the price offer all costs and needs such as: transportation, sound system, any other needs for the activity) 
  • Provide detailed information about activities (type of games, circus/theatre’s type of activities) and their link with the improvement of the psychosocial wellbeing of the participants. 
  • All activities shall be child friendly, gender-wise-oriented, and accessible/sensitive for persons with disabilities.  

Time frame  

The duration will be during January to November 2024 (date to be agreed with each targeted location) 

Terms of Payment 

The remuneration of the service provided will be done (70% 2 weeks after the signature of the agreement, 30% in the end of the activity)  

Required Skills and Experience 

The applicant is expected to have the following qualification:  

  • Have experience in working with children and caregivers (families), providing recreational activities such as open days, sport and games days, Circus exhibition/workshop, theater exhibition/workshop, family activities, ventilation activities…etc   
  • Familiarity and experience with psychosocial related activities is strong added value. 
  • Ability and flexibility to provide such activities in open area such as School yard, open stage, community centers, …etc.
