Translation Services

Working title: Translation services including insertion of subtitles for six training videos under Tafawoq competition / Social Innovation Project.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION 

ActionAid Palestine (AAP), in cooperation with ActionAid Italy and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, is implementing a three-year project entitled: “Social innovation in Palestine to fight unemployment and increase community resilience in Area C”. The project’s strategy comprises a comprehensive multi-pronged approach, with complementary and mutually reinforcing components to enable young people, particularly young women enhance economic resilience through career counselling, TVET courses, internships, supporting social enterprise and start-ups development and conducting awareness raising initiatives to combat the root causes for unemployment at local to national levels. 

Part of the project is to conduct trainings to young people (entrepreneurs) by professionals from Italy and Palestine to help them to establish and/or develop their social businesses to address social issues in their communities, and be able to have their own business plans.

PURPOSE & RATIONALE 

The purpose for this call for translation service, is to provide quality, accurate and context specific translation from English to Arabic for six training videos (on average each video is around 15 minutes) and to insert these translations as subtitles in Arabic for each video. Topics of the videos include discussing the idea of the project, definition of social enterprises, impact and social impact, economic sustainability, vision and mission for a business, theory of change, etc…

The contracted translation company/individual is required to provide:

1. Professional and accurate translation from English to Arabic for 6 training videos prepared by CGM, Italian organization. 
2. Share with ActionAid Palestine draft translation for each video for review and approval.
3. Ensure accuracy of the terminologies used in the videos.
4. For the subtitles of the video, to ensure that the translation is typed with style, correct grammar and spelling.
5. Complete the agreed timeline and submit the final translated videos with the subtitles in 2 soft copy.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS 

• Delivery of draft translation in word document of the 6 videos by Sunday 4th of October 2020.
• Delivery of final translation after ActionAid Palestine’s review and approval by Tuesday 6th of October 2020.
• Delivery of each video with subtitles in Arabic for ActionAid Palestine to review by Thursday 8th of October 2020.
• Delivery of final videos with subtitles by Saturday 10th of October 2020. 

SCHEDULE 

The translation and having the subtitles for each video shall be conducted and finalized between the period 1st of October 2020 to 10th of October 2020.

QUALIFICATIONS OF TRANSLATOR

• Bachelor degree in English-Arabic translation from recognized university.
• At least 3 years of professional translation experience from English to Arabic and vice versa.
• Demonstrated good understanding of technical terminology used in economic empowerment, business sector. 
• Proven skills in translation from English to Arabic in the field of business (startups and social enterprises).

APPLICATION PROCESS

 Companies/individuals that meet the requirements should submit expression of interest, which should include the following: 

1. Cover letter including the company/individual suitability for the assignment and current contact information.
2. Curriculum Vitae of translators with relevant translation experience as stated in the QUALIFICATION section.  
3. At least 2 recommendation letters from former clients that testify the applicant/s experience and performance in translation services. 
4. Include 1-2 samples of previous translation work 
5. Technical offer: respond to the call for translation services TOR, showing the company/individual understanding of the assignment and how this can be taken forward. 
6. Financial offer: detailed budget breakdown indicating the quotation per minute for the translation and inserting the subtitles.

Prerequisites for accepting Consultants/firms Financial offer:

• Prices must be VAT exempted. Otherwise 5% income tax deduction from the total cost for local individuals who are not registered as official company/firm. 
• The translation company/firm have to provide a valid deduct from source certificate along with the offer. 
• Prices must be in US Dollars valid for 30 days from the closing date of proposal submission. 
• Prices must include all expenses related to this task e.g. stationary, per diems…etc
