Translation Services

BACKGROUND

TASDEER is a 3-year, £15 million development programme funded by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by Cowater International. TASDEER will support the improvement of trade performance in the OPTs and will ultimately contribute to increased inclusive private sector-led economic growth and fiscal sustainability. Under the TASDEER program, Cowater and its consortium partners will work with Palestinian institutions and the private sector to expedite the movement of goods and reduce transaction costs, improve the trade-enabling environment, strengthen the competitiveness of the private sector to export, and improve Palestine’s customs capacity. The programme has an integrated focus on gender and social inclusion, with a focus on supporting inclusive growth and economic opportunities in the OPTs, including for the most vulnerable. Programme beneficiaries will be both the public and private sector’s institutions and firms.

SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT

TASDEER is seeking the services of 4-5 individuals or firms to provide translation services as necessary between English and Arabic. Each individual or firm will be on a retainer contract for the duration of the project and will receive at least three days’ notice of an assignment. Over the next six months, the translator’s services are anticipated to be needed on up to a weekly basis.

Tasks will include session and meeting translation, workshop and conference translation, and translation of written materials with copy-editing and proof-reading. The translator must be able to provide consecutive and simultaneous translation as necessary. Payment will be based on an hourly bill rate for oral translation and a per-page rate (250 words per page) for written translation.

REQUIREMENTS

• Verbal and written fluency in English and Arabic
• Training in translation, or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of trade, customs, business and economics terminology
• Experience performing simultaneous interpretation
• 5 years’ experience
• Availability with three days’ notice
• Hourly bill rate
