Website Developer (individual or company)
 
Position Location: Jerusalem 
 
  1. Objectives:
Sabeel is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced Website Developer (individual or company) who will be responsible for designing, coding, and modifying Sabeel’s website/online resource hub, from layout to function, according to our project specifications. The Website Developer will strive to create a visually appealing, responsive, and user-friendly website/online resource hub and will be responsible for offering specialized and creative expertise and research to maintain and grow the website.
 
Primary Objectives:
  1. To develop, design, and implement a visually innovative website/online resource hub focusing on access to information and data on Jerusalem.
  2. To collaborate with content creators, project partners, and project staff to ensure a diverse and comprehensive website/online resource hub.
  3. To conduct organizational research (gather data and information) working in Jerusalem, as agreed to with Sabeel focal point, to identify their priority areas of work and documents produced (see for example
  4. To provide insights and recommendations for improvement of user friendly and user proficiency in online resource library utilization.
 
Resource Hub Data and Information:
The resource hub will include, but not limited to the following documents:
  • Updated Reports on Jerusalem: Regularly updated information to keep users informed about the latest developments in Jerusalem. These reports will include specific priority areas such as house demolitions, land confiscation, family reunification, Jerusalem Municipality plans including zoning, settlements, freedom of worship, freedom of movement (checkpoints), among others.
  • Copyright-Free Photos and Videos: A repository of images and videos that can be used without copyright restrictions, ensuring accessibility for diverse purposes.
  • Documentaries on Jerusalem: A collection of documentaries providing in-depth insights into the historical and contemporary aspects of Jerusalem.
  • Who's Who in Jerusalem: An informative section profiling key individuals and organizations shaping the city while ensuring that the project does not duplicate the work of PASSIA.
  • Maps of Jerusalem: Comprehensive maps to assist users in navigating and understanding the layout of Jerusalem.
  • Stories for Influencers to Promote: Engaging and shareable narratives that influencers can use to promote Jerusalem effectively.
 
 
 
 
 
Key Responsibilities and Scope of Work:
  1. Development and Maintenance:
    • Design, code, and modify website, from layout to function, ensuring that it not only functions seamlessly but also captivates users visually.
    • Develop website architecture, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
    • Implement visually appealing layouts and interactive elements to enhance the overall user experience.
    • Explore creative ways to enhance data visualization and presentation.
  2. Coding and Programming:
    • Write clean, well-designed code using appropriate technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
    • Implement and maintain website features and functionalities.
    • Troubleshoot and debug issues to ensure seamless website performance.
  3. Content Management:
    • Integrate content management systems (CMS) to facilitate easy content updates.
    • Ensure content is properly formatted, optimized, and compatible with various browsers and devices.
    • Collaborate closely with content creators and project staff to not only organize resources efficiently but also present them in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
    • Strive for a harmonious blend of functionality and visual appeal in resource presentation.
  4. Research:
    • Research a list of 30 organizations (list to be agreed upon following recruitment) in Jerusalem to gather data and information on various thematic topics/priorities for the resource library as identified above under Resource Hub Data and Information.
    • Hold meetings with selected organizations, as identified by Sabeel, to discuss their contribution to resources for the library.
    • Prepare a report with a synopsis of each of the organizations contacted/visited and expectations of their main contributions to the resource hub.
  5. User Experience (UX) Optimization:
    • Create an interface that works flawlessly and encourages users to return.
    • Introduce creative navigation elements and responsive design principles to encourage continued user exploration.
  6. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with staff, UX specialists, and other stakeholders to create a cohesive and visually appealing user experience.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
    • Collaborate with project staff to incorporate project-specific details and requirements.
  7. Testing and Quality Assurance:
    • Conduct thorough testing of website to identify and fix bugs, glitches, and any other issues that arise.
    • Perform regular website maintenance and updates to ensure optimal performance.
    • Implement all security measures to safeguard all website-related digital assets.

  3. Following discussions, provide a list of recommendations for improvement of user-friendly website.
  4. First report on Jerusalem organizations including gathered data/information.
  5. Final report on Jerusalem organizations including contact information and all gathered data/information.
  6. Final development/design of website/hub (activated).
 
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • At least five years of experience website design and development, content management, and programming.
  • Strong proficiency in programming language such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with relevant frameworks.
  • Experience with front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js, etc.)
  • Knowledge of back-end development and server-side languages (Node.js, Python, PHP, etc.)
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Knowledge of UX design principles and a passion for creating visually notable interfaces.
  • Expertise in graphic design and programming.
  • Experience with database management and integration.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in research collection and interview methods.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff/teams.
  • Understanding of web security principles.
  • Holder of Jerusalem ID.
